I assume Sani will give us a TCX course, any idea how I can convert a GPX course I want to use to test to a TCX course

They will probably only give us the GPX file. There are various converters available on the internet but I found the Garmin could not read some of the conversions. www.gpsies.com had an option to convert to Garmin tcx course which works.

So, whilst you are navigating, can you still see the other measurables .i.e. speed, distance, alt gain, etc? Or is it navigation only? I have a Bryton Rider 40, my riding buddy has a Garmin Edge 500. So an answer to any of the two would help.

i don't think they will only give Gpx, cause for the official "s2c gps training day" hosted in Cape Town & Jhb (I think), they supplied a "test course" in a number of different formats & that is because they are fully aware that people have different GPS units.

Last year, whilst doing a trial run, they only provided the gpx files. It might be different this year though...

Don't need GPS. Just follow the perfectly manicured single track highway down to the coast! Did the Joberg2C last year and some teams never had any gps and managed quite well.

yep the test I'm referring To above was a few weeks back, but you could be right.

Today in a month's time the Trail heads to the beach, the Adventure hits the Umko and the Race kicks off! Man, I'm excited!

Despite the almost non-existent accuracy I've decided to have a look at the extended weather forecasts. Weather looking pretty normal. Chilly mornings, nice days!

Durban - Ye, I know... but News24 didn't have Scottburgh and I was just too lazy to go to another weather service.

Here's hoping for sunny skies all round!

Hi all

We recently got a substitute entry for the Race. Obviously the people who's entry we took would have had a driver option, but we don't so we wanted to make use of the car shuttle service. Only problem is it is full and we have no way of getting back to Unterberg otherwise.

Does anyone know of someone willing to assist in driving the vehicle down to Scottburgh for the Race? We will of course pay for the privilege.

We are still awaiting feedback from the organisers to hear of they might have an extra driver available but we need to get a backup plan sorted in the next month.

Cheers!

Some guys leave their vehicles in Underberg and then bus it back after the finish to pick them up.  A pain in the arse, but better than nothing.

Drop the organisers of the car shuttle a mail and see if they know anything of it.

Apparently it's bring your own driver, use the car shuttle service or good luck. No more bus.

last year they uploaded the route files directly onto my gps, no conversions needed (garmin 510)

The Edge 510 uses gpx files whereas the Edge 500 uses a tcx file. Hence the gpx file needs to be converted for use on the Edge 500.

yes, me...I'm also not going to drop R5k+ right now...(I want a 810...but will not settle for the 510 now and have to upgrade later..rather wait till cashflow sorts itsself out!)

I've spoken to a few guys who's done it before...and they are op the opinion that you must be pretty clueless to get totally lost...especially in such a big event!

so, I'll make sure that I'm always in a group...and IF the entire group gets lost...no biggie! {we'll eat the fattest one first...then me!}

Why would you want to get a 810. 510 has everything you need.
