So I started day 1 of a new training program this moring (actually day 2 because day 1 was 'stretch' which I interpret to be 'Watch the tennis at Wimbledon') ...

and I keep waking myself up everytime my head hits the desk.

What do people to try and stay alert (awake?) after a morning training session (assuming one is not asthmatic and has sneaky inhaler handy  )

Coffee on the half hour?

Go to bed a bit earlier,

It will take a couple weeks to get used to and your body to adapt.

Also try loading as many of your daily carbs into your system to help.

try using melatonin to regulate your sleep - it works for jetlag

i will look into it, im on strong pills at the moment, 2 sleeping 1 calming, and 3 hours a night is considered a GREAT NIGHTS SLEEP

take care with the sleeping pills and the tranq's - my wife was on them for a time and she says that she feels like she "lost" her life for that period. They can & do serve a (short-term) purpose but they are (in my uneducated view) nasty over the longer-term. Please check with your doc or pharmacist for contra-indications with the melatonin and other meds. Good luck - hope you get some rest.

I have the same issue in summer, the warmer it gets, the worse I get, usually around 2 to 3pm if I have had a hard 5 to 7 am training ride...... I upped my morning snacks, loads fruit and a new trick, i make a very watery Future life drink, that really helped.... Future life breakfast with lots of water and I drink that....
