I have just organised myself a stash of the best droewors I have ever eaten for the FC.

Comes from a little shop in Steytlerville, Leonie Maasdorp tells me she has been making it for 30 years.

Transport need not be an issue as she goes to "Die Baai", (PE for you rooinekke ;) on a weekly basis, so it can be sent to you by Aramex at your expense.

Leonie can be contacted on 072 150 3450

Starting date confirmed . It's for real now  . I just read  this complete thread and the 2014 one  again just in-case I missed something . Spending lotsa hours going over my Google routes again and again , can't wait for my map set . Actual training not going to well , got my normal summer flu when in Namibia and been out of action for three weeks now , but starting again Monday . In advance wanna thank everybody for all the advice . 21 containers waiting to be packed lying all over the place . Also got a lift down to PMB today ,  so there I can again save a few Rands . My original R60k budget getting stretched a bit now .

Back again for some more !!!

Teamed up with Soutie Stuart Roos & Boertjie Ivor Jones, let's see what the mixed Boere and one Soutie bulldozing  train can achieve.....

This might be my last year racing, but I might be back in years to come for some more wonderful experiences !!!!

Just hope to see Lehana aka David Waddilove sweat on the trail, and if I can get in front of him I will definitely sow the seeds of love......and pain.....

All the best for the rest of you !!!

What day are you setting off? I am on the 9th with slow ballies, better so as due tue an elbow energy training is slow and portaging exercices are gonna stil be a big no for a while.

Heart Rate Zone's where do you need to train for the Freedom Challenge ?

Once you understand zones, you need to understand what they mean to you so you can train within them. This is important because each person is exercising for a different goal, some want to lose weight and others may want to increase their fitness level. You need to train in the correct zone in order to achieve your goals and keep motivated.

Zone 1 (heart rate is between 50 to 60% of your max heart rate) is a beginner’s level of aerobic training and consists of moderate activity or a warm up. You should be feeling relaxed, warming up at an easy pace and your breathing should be rhythmic. If your goal is to lose weight, you won’t achieve it in zone 1. You need to be exercising more vigorously to increase your heart rate.

Zone 2 (60-70%) is your weight control zone. You should be working out in a comfortable pace where you have slightly deeper breaths but can still have a conversation. If you are looking to lose weight, you should make sure your heart rate is in zone 2.

Zone 3 (70-80%) is your aerobic zone for those whose goals are to increase their fitness or cardio ability. You should be working out at a moderate pace and it should be more difficult to hold conversation. This will increase your cardio ability and improve your aerobic capacity.

Zone 4 (80-90%) is your anaerobic zone for hard core training. You will be working out at a fast pace and feel a bit uncomfortable. Your breathing will begin to feel a bit forceful but you will develop improved anaerobic capacity, increased strength and improved speed.

Zone 5 (90-100%) is your maximum effort zone. You should be sprinting as fast as you can but you won’t be able to sustain your pace and effort for too long. Your breathing will be laboured but you will develop muscular endurance and increased power when reaching this zone in your work outs.

I suppose you need to use some sort of heart rate monitor for this ?

Send my wife last year on a European cycling tour  and then promptly went and entered RASA , so I have used CYA to make sure there will be no comebacks from her side later .

BTW I will be one of the slow ballies starting on the 8th . You got a day to catch me German .

You might be slow on the Freedom, but on any other race you will be flying after the Freedom.

Who will catch the German and who will he catch...... remains to be seen on the 9th of June 2015.

So Lehana aka David Waddilove is starting on the 7th, he has given himself a 10 day lead on us, and he bed me we won't catch him. It's going to be a lekke carrot to chase........and it might be my best Freedom Challenge ever !!!!

It remains to be seen and to unfold, only the Freedom Challenge will determine who will catch who, but I can tell you there are a couple of us that wants to appreciate and experience the sufferings......

Not sure if I will be catching anyone as I fell early in the year and hurt my arm. Got training again for two weeks and the pain is back so docotrs said no mountainbiking, swmming(my main cross training). So I would just be glad if I can ride again and actually make it to the start line.

Though then I would like to catch Lehana and Rissink just before the Osseberg and convince them to cross at night(just cos it sounds lik a real stupid thing to do). Marnitz would be nice if you catch me just before Stettyns and that I can go through there in company of a Freedom challenge Legend.

I mistakenly bought a Men's XL Endura BaaBaa Merino top. Too much hassle to send back to CRC.

Yours for R650 including Aramex delivery to you.

I bought a Cape Storm top. Survivedva cold EC winter in sub-zero temps and a cold wet Trans Baviaans. Good SA merino wool, so you'd better buy from them otherwise this wool farmer will be pissed at you.
