After today I realized again that my Elixir 1 is really crap on my bike

I am riding a Carbon XC bike but I am using it for some street riding, but not to major, I think...

I found.

-Hope Evo E4 (dual piston) at R3200 including rotors on CRC, and is it true that there is no Import tax on disc brakes? I know I have to pay 14% Vat

-Advid trail brakes (dual piston) for around R2000

I would later put the dual piston brakes on a DH or Enduro bike.

Any advice on these brakes or other brakes?

Note: If I want to stop I want to stop now not 5 seconds later, and I don't want to break the bank.

Best XC brakes on earth, Shimano SLX, XT or XTR.

You can't beat it's performance, reliability, and no hassle setup/maintenance. Value wise, it's also a no brainer.

For maximum stopping power, get a set of ICETec rotors to match.

Don't let anyone try and tell *** about anything being better.

lol. @ that frothymouthed defense of JustAnotherProduct.

But another good product is the Avid Trails. Very high performance, very high reliability, very low maintenance. Can be pricey though. Might not be the value option of the shimano thingies, but every bit as good, and probably better. But that's just my personal, and long term experience with the Avid XO Trails. Faultless product.

Shimano is for win.

If you're keen for 4 pot, there's ZEE and SAINT...they're all just amazing value for money and tick all the boxes.

I was suprisied at how good the Avid trail brakes are, but maintanace will still be the issue. They should be bled lots and kept reasonably clean

Hope brakes have amazing modulation (Shimano is on or off if they are set up properly), and awsum stopping power but they are always tricky to set up, i wouldn't recommend the Hope disks, they never seem to be straight, they are a mission to straighten, and they cost. LOTS. So run shimano disks that are axactly the same size and compatible with pad material

Magura recently launched some stuff thats probably worth looking at, Magura's are super easy to live with, untill you try find pads at the little shop down the road

Hopes!! :)

Think those prices are for one brake, if Im not mistaken, or i'll have to go visit CRC! Still have one bike that doesnt have hopes,, haha. And you must go braided hoses!

My set worked me out Around R5800 with rotors and braided hoses, from my LBS fitted& bled

Once you had hope brakes, all other brakes are just plastic imitations.

Think hopes are one of the most expensive brakes available, but definitely worth it.

Have Maguras on mine, came with the bike.

Initially they annoyed me with squealing, but that can be fixed.

Realised today going down the tech stuff at Hakahana that they are really strong brakes with great modulation.

I was going to change to XTR/XT but think I will stick to the Maguras after seeing them properly in action today.

Let me just say that I'm a Hope junkie up front. I've got Hopes on both of my bikes and I absolutely love them. The lever feel is great. There's more than enough power and they look the Sh#t. I've done 2 France trips with Hopes where you routinely do 50+ km of dh in a single day and I've never had so much as a hint of brake fade. There's a reason all the guys who pay for their own brakes in the Alps run Hope. They are not cheap tho.

If you're looking at 4 potters that will eventually make their way onto your DH rig the E4 is a winner. They basically took the M4 caliper and mated that with the new Tech 3 lever.

But at the price on CRC Saint you could get Saint. Mmmmmmm Full Saint. I've not ridden Saint so I can't advise. But I want to.

As an alternative maybe look at the Shimano Zee. They might not be as blingy as Saint or Hope but the feel is great and the power is great too.

You've got some great brakes to pick from.

With my bike and kit there are 115kg to stop at speed .Shimano xt,s and even better the xtr,s .I tested them at Hakahana yesterday and i am hugely impressed With regard to hopes and formula brakes ,i don,t want to go searching for brakepads when i need them

Hakahana was the ultimate brake testing event .The last time i tested my brakes this much was at 3towers

Got the XTs and SLX. Happy with both. BUT to save a bit I will go SLX if I have to replace XTs. Setup is easy. IceTec rotors is very expensive if you are going 6bolt.

Avid Juicy7 was one of my favourite brakes tough.

You ride a carbon XC and also on the road!!

Nothing hectic!

You don't want to BREAK the bank!!

Service the Elixir 1 brakes properly and they will serve your needs!!

(and no you don't have to bleed them after every ride)

And no you are not doing the Alps!

XO Trail brakes without a doubt. I know all the haters bitch about bleeding which i've never had to do since installing mine.

The only bleed i do is when i change pads and thats because i can. Google and Youtube will show you how simple it actually is to bleed AVID.SRAM brakes.
