Best MTB pedal

Eggbeaters don't work so nicely with Sidi shoes. They're great at first, but then they start to wear ridges into the soles, and you get a lot of vertical play. Also the spindle length is longer than most pedals (except for the top-of-the-range), which was a problem for me and caused me an ankle injury.

I went back to SPD's and haven't had any problems, but they're certainly not the lightest pedals out there. The Looks definitely look worth trying.

What I can gather about the LOOKS........at the moment no-one really knows because its not available yet. But an lot of hype on the net about them, must say, the look pretty awesome!

My brother had the same problem with Eggbeaters and Sidi shoes. He also found the play very annoying.

Switched back to XTR and very happy with them.

I'm on XTR as well...previous generation PD M959. Never had any problems. Ridden in lots of mud.

When these were introduced some prominent magazine reviewed them and simply said that all things considered it's still the best overall pedal.

That was before the Looks hit the market. Will be interesting to see how they compare.

I'm gonna throw a spanner in the works and recommend Ritcheys. They are SPDs but way more open. Extremely easy to clip in and tension is adjustable.

Is Porche nou 'n *** kar?

en my punt is:

was using shimano, never had a problem except that they dont like dried mud and small stones... then I broke part of the clip off in a fall.

now am using crank bros candys (egg beater with platform)... I hope I dont have the same issue with the sidi shoes, but am very happy so far. the release action is more natural -  just my opinion.

Egg beaters are something of a cult, and also a "fashion" statement, like bellbottoms and baggies.

With pltaforms on them like the candy C, the earlier post comparing pedals has to be changed.

Obviously with four entry points eggbeaters are easier to "find" in mud.  But tensioning cannot be adjusted, which is both good and bad.

Slowpoke battled with her new eggbeaters because of this (especially after getting used to he new %$#@ speedplays on her road bike.)

Fanie

Well, been cycling on and off road for 7 years, and for the last 5 have been using Time ATACs'....and I've only had 3 pairs (1 of which went onto the road bike).  They just plain work....it's that simple.  They always require the same force to get in and out.....dust, mud, snow, whatever....they just work.

There is no "best" pedal. There is a personal choice only. Some like the play, others don't. Some need the option to enter on four side, some are smart enough to only need two. See if you can try some out and then decide.
