Having been forced to abandon the Vuelta a España on Wednesday after a crash on stage 11, Nairo Quintana has undergone successful season-ending surgery on his right shoulder blade in Pamplona.

The Movistar rider who won of the Giro d'Italia in May sustained a displaced fracture of his right scapula 25km into stage 11 which was his second crash in as many days. Quintana had lost the race lead on the previous day's time trial when he crashed while cornering and flipped over his handlebars.

Saw in the local press today that Cancellera definitely will not be contesting the World TT champs, focusing solely on the road race, which explains his behaving like a regular roadie and 8th place yesterday

May as well give Tony Martin the jersey and trophy for the TT now. Roadrace will be interesting.

Another good win for Degenkolb yesterday....he is turning into my favourite sprinter.

Bumpy day again today I see, certainly not a sprinters day so my feeling is 'Berto / Saxo will let any break go today so we may see a successful breakaway.

Just as an aside, anyone notice how lean Tom Boonen is? He appears to be a lot leaner than usual and maybe thats why his sprinting is a bit below par.....dunno, just guessing, but its certainly the leanest I have seen him in years.
