Have just heard a cyclist was also relieved of his MTB on the M19 here in Durban yesterday. Guy was beaten but ok. Cannot find more info in this regard.

Not so "okay". He was stabbed with a punctured lung and ended up in ICU, but they say he should recover.

He stopped to fix a puncture ay 5.45am yesterday. On the Blair Atholl bridge as it goes onto the M19. Was apparently alone.

It is really a pitty that things are getting so bad! I prefer to stay positive but, not being able to ride a bike alone? It is a sad day. Stay safe people

it is indeed sad considering that most people enjoy the trails and this is being taken away by savages who have no respect for human life !!

Diane Macpherson - Michelle wants to warn cyclists to be careful about stopping on the side of the road on Blair Atholl Road, now Rodger Sishi (Westville North) at the split to the M19.

Her dad was attacked there by five men, at 5:45 yesterday morning, while he had stopped to fix a puncture. The attackers stabbed him, and he also sustained multiple scratches and is very bruised. The suspects fled with his Giant racing bike. Please be very careful if you cycle this route. And we sincerely hope Michelle's dad is going to make a full recovery from this horrific incident. He's currently in ICU.

Sadly KZN is now catching up with the rest of the country it seems. I narrowly missed an attempted attack in the same place on Blair Atholl / Rodger Sishi road some weeks ago. I did put a warning up on the KZN danger areas thread.

My back yard. I ride this often in the early morning (dark) and in the evening alone and in the dark. There goes my commute!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 guys...no chance up a hill like that with plenty bush to hide. I am now dictated to by these robbers. Not cool. Thinking about this.....I have no idea about another route to town. M13 it a definite no-no. Hey, I am gutted!

I have stopped cycling alone until it gets starts to get lighter earlier. Apart from the potholes, it just isn't worth the risk of being bike-jacked. Weekends only with my buddies for me until the road season starts again.
