ROUTE DESCRIPTION

 

The 118km route follows the West Coast Road to the Yzerfontein turn off where a right turn takes cyclists through the town of Darling. Cyclists leave Darling via the R315 past Mamre.’

 

The 66 km route follows the West Coast Road to the Mamre’ turn off. (up the only hill on the course). Pedal through the outskirts of Mamre’ to meet up with the 118km km route in Atlantis.

 

Both the 118km and 66km routes take a short cut through the Atlantis industrial area, and return via the “tree lined route” and onto Melkbosstrand Road. Turn right at the traffic light onto the Westcoast Road, and back to the finish in Duynefontein.

 

The 26 km route heads South on the coastal road towards Big Bay. A left turn at the first circle in Big Bay takes cyclists back towards the West Coast Road, where cyclists turn left on to the West Coast Road and back to the finish in Duynefontein. THIS ROUTE WILL NOT BE TIMED!

 

DIRECTIONS TO THE VENUE

 

From the N1, take the Milnerton off-ramp onto Koeberg Road. Continue past Ysterplaat, through Milnerton, left into Racecourse Road past Milnerton Medi Clinic, and right at the traffic light (at Paddocks Shopping Mall) onto the West Coast Road.

Follow the West Coast Road for +/- 20km to the 2^nd traffic light in Melkbos. Turn left into Melkbosstrand Road and right into Otto Duplessis Drive. Follow the signs and marshals to one of the designated parking areas. GPS Co-ordinates: S33 41’ 35.4” - E18 26’ 44.3”

• This is a challenging route for the fit and strong cyclist.
• Take note of the early start time. (06h15)
• Entries are online only.
• There are cut-off points along the route calculated on an average speed of 20km/hr.Cut off point No.1 at 47km – Yzerfontein turnoff 09:21Cut off point No.2.at 62km - Darling Main Road 10:06

Its got some nasty hills too. Both long and steady and some short and steep, especially the climb out of Darling.

Is there a typo on the flyer, ie the 26km I would assume starts at 8h15 and the 66km at 7h15, as opposed to the current times shown?

No typo - we need to do that and get the short route off the road before the league guys come barreling down on them.

so there will be a league - how are you guys going to cope with the big bunches? last year we caught the bunch ahead and then were caught by the bunch who started behind us with the result that we took over both sides of the road all the way from atlantis to the mamre turn

Hi Omar, we will have the motorbike guys to monitor the groups but there is not much we can do to stop bunches merging. Lets just hope that sanity rules on the day.
