Does anyone know if one can still get 29er rims with brake surface, ie NOT -disk specific? Ones that you can use on with V-brakes.....or on a roadbike?

They will. Got a set of DA28 rims laced to Novatec hubs (28 spokes). Used them for bout two years and they are now doing duty on the wife's steed. Still going strong and true as the day they were built. And not too heavy either at just under 1800gr for the set.

Did they ever make 29er wheels for rim brakes? Cyclocross rims should work fine...

My question is where are you going to find a 29er frame with v brake mounts?

I want to build my MTB powertap into them and use them on the roadbike (remov disk) and MTB bike with the disk fitted again.

Just make sure you check the width of the two frames - I think MTB is 153mm wide and Road about 138mm. You could probably massage the MTB hub into the road frame but not sure if that's such a wise move.
