Goodbye Eagle Canyon Cycles

Pity that you have had a bad experience with them. They are my regular go to shop and I have never had issues. They could easily have taken me for  a ride a few times where I suggested I need something done to my bikes and they said that it's not needed.

I'm actually planning on taking my mtb in this week or next to have the brakes sorted.

Noooo - not your brakes. Seriaaas - he is clueless. There is no way you can mess up as badly as he did and have the vaguest idea what is going on. To lube your chain or pump your tyres, brilliant, but based on very bitter experience, not your brakes!!

So far the total cost to me of getting my brakes back to what was delivered to Eagle Canyon has been well in excess of R2K - money I would far rather have spent elsewhere!! This includes the Goodridge hose which was thrown away by Eagle Canyon, the replacement hose which I paid for and they then kinked and trashed, and then schlepping my bike off to a competent LBS to have them put "proper" hoses back onto my bike. Stupid certainly comes at a high price, but I don't think I will make that mistake again.

Dam Serious rants.

Well for what its worth, I think its an excellent shop. Chaunce (son) has always gladly helped me. I am very particular with my setup and expect my bike to be dialed ALWAYSChaunce goes out of his way to make that happen for me! I've used plenty other LBS and they SUCK compared.

I think Eagle Canyon Cycles are  great and will continue using them!

And just to rub salt in the wounds - both sets of brake pads contaminated and needed to be replaced.

For future saving of $$$, contaminated pads don't have to be binned. Spray some brake cleaner on them and light them, let cool and repeat. you can also use a heat gun till they stop smoking. also clean rotors with break cleaner. then give both a light sanding, replace and re-bed in your brakes.

sanding makes everything new!

These were sanded aplenty by me. I did all the "novice" checks. Ensured the rotors were properly cleaned, ensured the pads were sanded  - but certainly didn't have the knowledge (or balls) to burn them. Well worth a try if it every happens again.

Just saw this now..

Pre 2015 eagle canyon cycles was a terrible shop, worst sales advice. I once walked around for about 15mins without been offered help. I would have never have gone back.

But...

When i heard about the new owner and his son taking over i retried them again.

Up till now ive been going to Chauncer and their shop for the past 2 years without a single issue. Ive had just about every component and all of my bikes serviced there and without one single issue. After fetching and racing all my bikes, the gears and brakes are always set 100%

I have sent alot of riders through to EAGLE CANYON CYCLES and everyone of them have been satisfied 100%.

Im still surprised every time i ģet a phone call the same day or max 2 days after ive sent it in for service.

So from myself and about 8 of my best friends we salute you Chauncer and EAGLE CANYON CYCLES.

Always amazing how a change of staff/owner can make a difference to a shop.

Last year I walked into a local distributor, on a mission to buy a new bike ....

Still waiting to be noticed !  A lady that walked in a few minutes after me got helped though, but then again she was not heavy on the eyes .....

Drove 50km to another outlet for the same brand and bought my bike.

Not wanting to do a 100km return trip I popped into the first store today to pick one item .... NEW staff member, and he was NEW !  Had to ask his boss for help a couple of times.  BUT, he was eager, and I ended up walking out with a bag full of goodies, and spent a good bit of money.

SERVICE !

Thanks to the newbie at TREK Durbanville.

You're talking about Best Bikes? I've been twice and the guys were excellent both times! I'm using them to for my Top Fuel now and it's quite the drive, but my experience at the Trek dealer in Stellenbosch was less than stellar

Sorry for the thread hijack, back to Eagle Canyon Cycles

Walked in there about two weeks ago after a side wall puncture.

Guy behind the till did not even look at us when we walked in, nevermind responding to our chants of ‘Good Morning’.

We went to the ‘tyre wall’ and couldn’t find what we were looking for. Had to ask guy behind the till for assistance.

He just said he doesn’t have what we were looking for. We asked if he could recommend something similair and simply said “No”

Tyre in question was 29x2.3. Looked for Conti’s and were open to recommendations.

Eventually bought Maxxis from a different shop.

Probably won’t go back to Eagle Canyon Cycles. Very bad 1st impression.
