Who won!!!!

The UCI!!!

How long will Jens Voigt hour record last? Well certainly no longer than until UCI changes the rules - and deems the bike Jens used illegal!!! The Lotus bike (made by Aerodyne / Cape Town) that CB did 56.375km/h in 1996 was also UCI legal at the time!

1 Chris Boardman (Manchester, UK)* September 7, 1996 56.375

2 Tony Rominger (Velodrome du Lac, Bordeaux)* November 5, 1994 55.291

3 Tony Rominger (Velodrome du Lac, Bordeaux)* October 22, 1994 53.832

4 Miguel Indurain (Velodrome du Lac, Bordeaux)* September 2, 1994 53.040

5 Graeme Obree (Velodrome du Lac, Bordeaux)* April 27, 1994 52.713

6 Chris Boardman (Velodrome du Lac, Bordeaux)* July 23, 1993 52.270

7 Graeme Obree (Hamar, Norway)* July 17, 1993 51.596

8 Francesco Moser (Mexico City)* January 23, 1984 51.151

9 Jens Voigt (Grenchen, Switzerland ) September 18, 2014 *** 51.115

10 Francesco Moser (Mexico City)* January 19, 1984 50.808

11 Ondrej Sosenka (Moscow, Russia) July 19, 2005 ** 49.700

12 Chris Boardman (Manchester, UK) October 27, 2000 49.441

13 Eddy Merckx (Mexico City) October 25, 1972 49.431

If you want to retire why don't you just retire. Not even a month and this guy is desperate for more publicity. Or is it Trek?

His riding style, where he moves his front wheel all over the place, and his lack of ITT pedigree, apart from 1 Team TT in 2001 in a GT, gives him little chance of a record.

But hey, if I'm wrong, I'll buy the first hundred hubbers who claim a beer at the Wine2Whales this year, both on day 1 and day 2 afternoons!

Jissis oke.

This might be an expensive chirp.

Oh wait, The Hub is full of keyboard warriors, not cyclists

That will become known as the most expensive shoot from the hip post in the history of Le Ub.

Damn, I might be to slow to be in the first 100. Will even buy my own beer for the opportunity to throw in a chirp ;)

All of these okes were filled to the gills with juice.

Stephen Roche was also one of these speed demons, but alas he too was a roid junky

I am a kuk cyclist but I drink beer with the best of them. My 3rd W2W coming up. I can celebrate Jens on behalf of some hubbers.

Maybe, but juice or no juice, I still wonder who of these could have done what Merckx did on a basic steel bike. Just sayin'. Even if Eddy was flying on something, it was probably the most dangerous thing available, like aspirin. Or wine.

Still the most amazing old oke though, taking nothing from Jens's success:

Frenchman rode 2,5 kilometres more than two years ago

Robert Marchand, a 102-year old rider from France, beat his own hour record on the newly opened cycling track in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines on Friday. Marchand rode 2,5 kilometres more than he did when he had just turned 100 years old two years ago.

The new hour record for the UCI 100-plus category which was created especially for Marchand, now stands at 26 kilometers and 927 metres.

Marchand was born in 1911 in the norther French city of Amiens. He started riding when he was 14 years old, in 1925, but during his long working career he didn't have time anymore. He took up the bike again when he was 67 years old. When he was 89 he finished the 600-kilometre race between Bordeaux and Paris in 36 hours.

He set his first hour record to mark his 100th birthday. In 2012  he rode 24 kilometres and 251 metres in Aigle. Two years later he rode 10 per cent faster than he did when he was 100 years old.

The veteran Frenchman who lived through two world wars in France also holds the record for 100-kilometres in his age group. On the track in Lyon he finished his 100 kilometre race in four hours and 15 minutes, averaging just over 23 kilometres per hour.

"With doping I could have ridden faster," Marchand joked. "But there is no doping. I only have water with some honey in my bottle here."

As stated the UCI won - comentary from a facebook page!

"OL: The sudden increase in the hour distances from '93 to '99 were by chance the same time EPO use was rife and when the EPO test came out in 2000, the record was no longer broken. UCI know those records would never be broken clean so used the bike rule change to dial back to a realistic record that would temp current riders to take a stab."

"OL : With all due respect to the Lotus/Aerodyne frame, the bike alone does not account for the extra 6Km:

"Aerodyne bikes: So stop engineer because you don't know how to do Dope control!!! A Concorde moment. Brilliant UCI. Come to think of it Concorde is where Aerodyne Space Technology became world famous as they redesigned all the seat on the Concorde out of carbon fiber to save weight on the plane!"
