What you think...?

So last year I stripped the paint off my Titus.

It was only temporary as I was deciding which way to go with it.

I would prefer to anodize, but am worried about the bearing surfaces being damaged during the etching process...?

Any comments...?

I won't go paint as it scrathes to easily. The other option is to powdercoat.

It can also scratch/chip when hit hard with rocks etc but should be much harder wearing. However, if it does start looking manky it'll need to be sandblasted to resurface, which is not ideal as this will almost certainly damage the bearing surfaces, right?

If I go that route....which colour do you guys think?

I'd go with the powdercoat, you'll have to hit it really hard to do any damage. I'm also looking into powder coating a frame.

My Santa is powder coated and it does show up scratches quite easily.

How about polishing the frame and adding a clear coat ?

Not keen on keeping this colour. It was quite novel initially but it's pretty boring now.

Will inspect the anodizing process thoroughly and maye go that route. Was just thinking now that we powdercoat some of our products(albeit steel) and some batches seem really durable whereas others are much less so and chip easily.

I'd be really pissed if it wasn't a really good coating.

Eish....decisions!

Minty, I spoke to anodisers and they say they have a problem with bike frames. Maybe it's just because of lack of experience or they just don't give a ..., but they said they when they remove it from the acid bath and then dip it into the anodiser they somtimes get the acid that was left somwhere in a corner or bubble can then ruin the anodize. Why don't you paint the front, polish the rear (without clear coat)

Ja, we have the same problem when galvanising sometimes....it's a bitch.

However, I was going to ask them if it HAS to go into the acid bath. I have heard that it can be anodized if it was polished only....not sure though. In our little electro-plating plant the acid also acts as an activator.

DR....you're referring to enamel paint?

Minty what bearing surfaces are you talking about?????? The only critical surfaces is the end surface of the BB "pipe" and the screw threads. The same for your headset end surfaces. I had cranks powdercoated and we just taped up the holes and there was no problem.

Are you talking about the bearing surfaces of the rear suspension. I am sure it can be blanked off if you decide to powder coat. Problem with powdercoat is that it scuffs easily and loses it's new edge easily. Painting is the best and less hassle free. Get a small bottle of the paint for touch up purposes. By judicious application and light sanding with verrrry fine waterpaper you can repair nicks quite easily.

Sal wel 'n merkie maak, maar dis baie beter as verf of epoxy

I'd offer some advice Minty, but last time I tried I spray - painted a bike red yellow and green.   I know I know, style and taste was never my strong point: besides I grew up in Saldanha.....but can I use that as an excuse?? probably not....suffice to say better if I just watch from the sidelines.  And occasionally yell meaningless inanities at everyone.
