Im 1.83m and ride a L 29er.

See sizing graph below:

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/backoffice/_upload_au/rider_height_frame_size.pdf

Your height, you would be leaning more towards an XL frame.

WHICH 29er though. Anthem? XTC?

As I said before - saying that you ride a large 29er is pointless in determining the fit for you. Saying that you ride a large Anthem 29er actually gives us numbers that can be compared to other large frames.

The OP may very well be an XL frame rider on some bikes, or an XXL on others.

It has fookall to do with wheel size.

Yup, sizes between brands differ.

Giant and Scott's XL is smaller than Meridas XL and a Large Merida is bigger than a XL Titan.

Hi guys,

Im 2.06m was always on an xl (21") frame and recently bought a Merida big nine 23". What a difference it has made to my comfort levels

A 21" frame for a hemelbesem like yourself is way too small, even if that 21" was that brands XL. Let me guess ... Silverback 26"?

At 2.06m you have a great excuse to get yourself a XXL Santa Cruz Tallboy!

Had the same 26" bike and still riding it occasionally in XL. I am 1.91 and all my bikes are XL. Went from the Merida XL to a Giant XTC 29" XL no problems at all.You are even taller so it should be less of an issue. Unless you have super short legs and a looooong torso you will have no issues fitting on a XL. And remember like armpies said, there is no difference in size between a 26" frame and a 29" frame. At your length XL all the way.

Yup have to agree a bike fit is the way fwd... Having said that I'm 189 so not quite as tall as you, I did however find that moving from a 26 to 29 some years back on the same size frame, a large in my case, made a world of difference in terms of comfort. However you can't expect to have a bike way too small for you and make the mods you are making to the cockpit without losing stability...first off shorter stem wider bars as Mayhem suggested will make a world of difference. I'd rather have a slight riser bar than have a riser on the steerer like that...I'm quite surprised you got to 60kph at all with that set-up :)

I am also 194cm and weigh 100kg .At your weight you probably have long limbs like me .Firstly get rid of the 26 inch bike .You need the bigger wheel for stability and more traction .Your effective top tube should be in the 640cm region .I have ridden a few bikes and i have never changed the stem if the frame is big enough .Road frame 62 cm .All HT,s Momsen L,On one XL ,scott XL ,Santa cruz XxL , Full suspension all XL ,Giant and Santa cruz .Specialized Xl frame is only slightly smaller than an Xxl Santa cruz

Have a look at BMC bikes they have a long top tube, short chain stays and a short stem similar to Mondraker, they handle like crazy and are comfortable.

Bmc don't make xl bikes. I wanted one... Also 1.94 tall.

I also like them but the frames are to small .Spez  make a big XL frame .Geometry makes a difference too .Racing hardtails have the weight more forward ,while a FS trail bike will have weight further back so a smaller frame works fine

Forget about S M L XL. look at the geometry

Spez XL is not that big. And FS does have weights further back.

A Large BMC TeamElite has a longer Effective Top Tube length than a Large Niner Air 9, for example.

You need to look at the geometry of bikes, not just what the size is. Size doesn't mean much.

I'm 1.94m tall and ride the Large BMC TeamElite with a layback seatpost. Perfect fit.
