I'm 93kg and the Gobi works for me now. When I first got it, it was not comfy after 3hours but now even 6+hours and I'm still comfy. I also have 5 or 6 other saddles that never got comfy.

Iv got a Fizik Tundra 2. its comfortable for a ride up to about 2.5 hours but after that I start to suffer from the dreaded numb nuts. Thinking of changing to somehing with a centre cut out.

I use to love the Spez Phenom, then this year developed a slight issue with the tendon in my right leg next to my sit bone and just can not use it. Only saddle I comfortable on now is a Fizik Aliante. Point is, DO NOT go based on what works for others, you can use it as a guide, but try out as many saddles as you possibly can before you spend money on it. Spez and Fizik are generally pretty happy to provide test saddles. I would start there.

The Specialized saddles are pretty comfortable, especially the Phenom, I hated the SLR Flow but for me the best saddle for long rides and the one on all my bikes is the Fizik Gobi. You don't need to get the carbon railed ones, think the manganese one is 999.

Go get fitted at a bike store and see if you can loan a saddle for the weekend before you buy. I know Lynnwood cylery offer a Specialized saddle fit and have plenty of loan units.

Hey guys, need some advice on a new saddle for my mtb.

I just got the bike and it came with a Selle Italia Q-bik but its way too narrow and killing my butt.

I have one of the older planet-x saddles on my roadie because I went through a bunch of different ones before finding that to be the most comfy.

I see the rapide is a similar one to the older planet-x but not so sure about it.

Seen a few people riding the Selle Italia SLR's and Fizik Gobi but dont want to splash out a bunch of cash on a saddle that I will hate.

So any recommendations?

Im on the bigger side at 90kg's and 1.87 so no skinny people saddles please!

Hi There - just seen your thread - I just placed an adv for a GOBI saddle under mtb components

Very happy with my Spez Avatar for the last few years and even happier now with the Phenom Comp Gel...but as others have said....its a very personal choice. If you can get fitted and get a loan saddle or two from your lbs to try out you will likely find one that is right for you. Try to ride at least 2 hours on each loaner with some long uphill climbs. Should clarify the choice

Had a fizik gobi on my last bike and intended moving it across to my new bike, which came with a spez phenom. The phenom has been more comfy. I will stick with that until I need to change and then move my gobi over.

Saddles are so personal. You have to experiment to find one that works for you. So many people rave about the Gobi but I hate it.

Spez henge and SDG Duster work for me. I need a saddle with a love channel ....

Fizik Gobi all the way for me..... On all my bikes.

Like others have said, it's entirely personal BUT it's interesting that so many others - like myself - have tried a variety before settling on the Gobi.

More than a coincidence perhaps?

I am also heavy and did not like the sella for the same reasons .I think you need a flatter saddle in the mid width range  .WTB Silverado seems to work for a lot of heavy riders including myself .Spez avatar and phenom are flatter saddles .Bontrager also make a flatter saddle with a slight rise that works for me

I have two Silverados on MTBs and they're not bad, light and inexpensive

Thanks for all the replies.

Seems its not a one size fits all thing. Will take a look at the most common suggestions and see if I can get some loan units from my lbs to try out.
