If you talking about Finn Iles, I see he has just signed a 3 year contract with Lapierre Gravity Republic [emoji1]

Winner, winner chicken dinner!

That's how I hope my little one will progress over the years. He's already getting used to his MUNA bike.

Just let him have fun on two wheels and the rest follows.

Then soon enough you are practicing on the sly in an effort to keep up with him.

my father tried to get me into mtb long ago... it didnt work.

his version of riding is leaving to go ride up rhodes memorial at 6 on a sunday morning, that was how he did it and he didnt want to change that.

i hated how if i wanted to go riding i had to wake up earlier than i would have if i was going to school, it just seemed stupid.

then the riding, he would push me past my fitness barrier very early, which was not fun, we didnt even get on to any gravel let alone single track, as a result i lost interest very quickly.

what got me into riding is seeing what it could become and the machines that could you there... my friend had a scott nitrous with a jet black single crown 190mm marzo, this thing looked mean, it was awesome.

so, i got into cycling again, my school offered it as a sport in the winter, which helped a lot, in the beginning the best i could do in a ride was getting to dh3, and i was walking most of the way.

soon i was getting fitter and i got my first proper bike, a giant strata... it was brand new, awesome. only, thinking back, for 5k you can do a whole lot better going second hand.

about a year my bike was stolen, luckily i had some money saved and i got a giant vt2.... also a pretty bad move, anyway, its still the bike that got me hooked, and i still maintain that that suspension platform has a lot of potential, that thing was suuuper plush!

why am i putting on the little shredders thread?

i was very nearly driven away from mtb before i even gave it a chance because the person who wanted me riding the most was pushing for it too hard.

if your kid wants to ride, take him riding, but also show him where it can go, show him some dh races, some dirt jumping, bmx, everything, even xc. but dont push too hard.

leka story mada...yes...100%...all these lighties have grown up doing exactly that watching people get gnarly and then wanting to do it themselves.

encourage but dont make them resent it...its a fine line and the parents that get it right will have a child with skills. If you look at all the top dh guys - they have been at it since they started riding.

I recall reading an interview recently with manon and she says how her father encouraged her to go to the pump track and bmx track - she used to moan before she got there...but after every session she was pumped and wanted to go back....until the next day when she saw her friends at the shops and she was heading off with her bmx...and so it repeated.....THAT is the fine line encouragement with a small push in the right direction...and now she is sky sports woman of the year - word champ and world cup champ...all in one year

yeah i remember that interview, the way she described it makes it sound like she was pushed until just before the  "**** this" point, something that delayed my enjoyment of riding by about 2 years.

find the line, and, to be safe, stay safe from it!
