With our friends at SAPO and Speed Services on strike,  what options are available to send a small parcel from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg.

Couriers are quoting over R200 making any purchase between centres impossible!

Thanks

Hi bud,

Its depends on many factors but i have used a company called Online express couriers , they are normally cheaper than the rest and you just book, eft sent pop and theyll collect.

Try Postnet have used them a few times. They charge R99 for a parcel from 0-5kg volumetric.

Yip, but my parcel was posted at the start of the strike. Nothing I can do now

I had a small parcel posted from the US on 22 September and it's now been with the IMC at ORT for at least the past 2 weeks.

Damn frustrating.

Have emailed a couple of people at the PO and haven't had a response as I want to go and fetch!.

Next import is being shipped via Stackry

I just checked out XOC and they are freakin expensive, R114 Excl VAT for ONX CT - JHB, our courier is R75 Excl VAT for the same service. We use Worldnet Express for our national and International orders, I have used dozens of these courier companies already. We ship about 10 parcels per day all over the country.  We also make use of BidAir Cargo if a client requires same day delivery to anther province. Much cheaper than SAA Cargo..

I have a parcel from CRC that left the UK on the 16th September (exactly a month today). Called the PO and they said it doesn't have a local tracking number yet. So my guess is it's sitting in ORT somewhere.

If you want to try your luck, call this number 021 590 5400. It's the PO Cape Town customer services number. There are 6 operators working so it's hit and miss. But it's better than the national call center number.

Spent the better part of Monday morning sorting my car licenses out, because of the strike the I did not receive the renewal notices. Filling in forms for 3 cars, together with making ID copies is quite a schlep and as everyone had the same issue the Q was a nightmare.

trying not to think about this, have a new frame lying, supposedly, at JIMC - it hasn't been scanned in but left the States on the 29th so it *only* been 17 days, but that's a long time for something to not be located.

so now I am a dedicated singlespeeder, no alternatives.

I have always supported SAPO with never having an issue buying and selling and shipping with them, but I will never ever make use of them again, I canhandle a delay  but the way they are handling this mess by allowing some employees hold them ransom, its a disgrace.

They clearly don't care about you or your mail.

Have a frame from China shipped on the 25 September, also not on the local registration yet, also some 11spd shifters from Wiggle around the same time.  Both must be at ORT IMC by now.

Given up trying to phone to find out if they are there !!
