Surely the loggers must have a short term program ... at least.

I am sure they don't just rock up on site and say hey, let's log some trees here today, and then throw some old bones, broken spokes and a couple of pine cones to do a reading of which section it will be.

Posted

Dave, I said it two years ago. If you rely on that map you are fooling yourself and those around you. Let it go, the pines are being extracted, all of them.

It still seems it is on an earlier exit than 2025..

That really isn't the point now is it?

Of course the pines are going to go, it's just how it's done and what's done afterwards that counts. To date NOTHING!!!

SANP should know what is happening under their control, same as I said 2 years ago.

I find it VERY hard to believe somebody from Cape Pine hasn't said to someone SANP,

"Hey, we're coming next month/week/...."

No notice to the users of the forest that are affected, be it through official channels, TokaiMTB, a note on the board, etc...

They have a lot of machines in Tokai right now. They've logged two big compartments on the south and until three weeks ago, all logging was limited to those sections.

Logging in the Western Cape is not profitable, least of all in the South peninsula 100km away from the nearest plantation. Machines, labour and commute time all add up. Add to this the inflexibility of not being able to move teams around easily and without massive delay.

The guy on the gate/hut yesterday was blathering on about it being R600 now.

More confusion...

Change is always a bit scary and I was shocked to see the top of Fairy on Saturday. I would feel far more optimistic if I could believe that there was a plan and that TMNP were actually going to "pay out some money" ( Sorry Mr Malema) and help put in some decent trails, but they don't seem to be able to even get a burn done....

That is a little less eye wateringly painful.

Did you get any feedback on kids under 12 paying?

But they must have an internal schedule at least they are working with ..... those trucks don't just arrive at a drop of a hat. There is some rather decent logistics they are dealing with, so should be planning their work .... if they are not, then they will never be profitable no matter where the site is!

You are sharp! See, nothing in the official release.. so the question bids, "do we bring it up for clarity?"

Sadly I did and this was the response...

"Hi Deon

The prices below have taken effect as of Saturday, 1 November and a media release notifying members of the public was subsequently sent out this morning to local and national media including community newspapers, websites and radio. Tariff increases take place annually and a general increase SANParks press release was sent out prior to last week indicating that there will be an increase. The media release has also been published on the SANParks website.

We do however note the inconvenience caused over the past weekend and apologise for this. Please also be advised that Level 3 permits are charged for anyone using a mountain bike. It is about the impact and not the person’s age.

There is a lot not considered in this decision and it will form a point of discussion when the TMMTB forum next meets.

So a four year old mincing around the path at lower Tokai on a bike now has an impact?

Riiigghhtt...

It is a sick joke.

Tactical blunder putting in the person's email address in there. Someone might spam her inbox with complaints....... Not that I'd ever suggest such a thing.

That's an understatement of note...

So by all accounts, my 2 1/2 year old needs an activity card as well. Feckit.
