OK not expected... I did the 24 hr solo at Van Gaalens last year, and managed 156km (13 laps). One more lap and I would have been in the top 10. This was with 4 or 5 hours sleep and plenty of "social time". Solo is the best way to do this. Get a bunch of mates, camp together, ride together, drink together. Awesome.

Thanks man, that's pretty much what I figured, just wanted to check. Don't want to sound like a pissie (which I probably do!) but that area doesn't strike me as the ideal camp site. To be honest, I prefer the set-up at Rietvlei then.

Maybe I'm getting soft, but I'm not looking forward to red dust (mud if it rains and there probably will be at least a little rain or a lot of dew) everywhere. I love camping (and riding!) at Mankele and have done 24hr rides at Nothern Farms, Rietvlei and Van Gaalens, but all of them have nice grassy camping areas. Like I say, maybe it's time to face the fact that I am indeed getting soft...
