Thats an average over 24hrs of 16.67km/h or more. Doesn't leave much time for sleep. I suspect I may be do less than 400kms

I forgot to mention, that's on a single speed apparently....

400km minimum is normally expected from rhe solo riders... So not much sleep then I guess...

OK not expected...

I did the 24 hr solo at Van Gaalens last year, and managed 156km (13 laps). One more lap and I would have been in the top 10.

This was with 4 or 5 hours sleep and plenty of "social time". Solo is the best way to do this. Get a bunch of mates, camp together, ride together, drink together. Awesome.

Yip that is my plan.... just get some friends to join and just have some fun and enjoy the night out.

I would assume so as that is how it was last year ....

Thanks man, that's pretty much what I figured, just wanted to check. Don't want to sound like a pissie (which I probably do!) but that area doesn't strike me as the ideal camp site.

To be honest, I prefer the set-up at Rietvlei then.

You shouldn't be sleeping much at a 24hr race ;)

I hear you, but it's not primarily about the sleeping. Maybe I'm getting soft, but I'm not looking forward to red dust (mud if it rains and there probably will be at least a little rain or a lot of dew) everywhere. I love camping (and riding!) at Mankele and have done 24hr rides at Nothern Farms, Rietvlei and Van Gaalens, but all of them have nice grassy camping areas.

Like I say, maybe it's time to face the fact that I am indeed getting soft...
