Can't get tyres on ZTR Crests

I have Maxxis Ardent & Corssmark, and I can unseat both of them by hand. You literally have to grab the top of the tyre and squeeze and then pull it away, then use the tyre lever.

Not going tubeless with Crests is like having a firepool that will never be used to put out any fires  :w00t:

Went tubeless beginning of this year, and I am yet to have a flat.

My experience fitting crossmarks on arch ex required lot of effort and patience, its one thing to sit at home and fit them but I dread having to do this on the trail should the need arise.

Geax on WTB rims I found the exact opposite and you can fit this without even using tyre levers.

It looks fairly easy using the right tools in the right environment, but again my concern is when you are out in the woods and you do not have soapy water or Mr Min or any of the tools that makes it easy. With tubes so far I could sort myself out without any levers and be on my way in 5 minutes. Seems with tubeless if that happens I am fooked.

Nope......all you need then is: (in this order)

Naaa chuck those ZTR rims, no point in having merc class rims when you could go back to your giant rims and be in opel class :P

Ok so back to being serious now.

You will have *much* less need to change tubes if you are running tubeless, its like most people mentioned - only needed if you get a sidewall cut.

Get proper tyres though with sidewall protection and its a fit and forget setup.

Right, so thanks to all the advise I am going to be super broke after this week. Getting a Crossmark and Vittoria on the ZTRs. The tyres alone cost R620 each! This had better be good.

I also decided to get some more tubes and put the Racing Ralphs on my CR70 wheels, clean them and keep them as backup, don't trust this tubeless thing just yet, hope to be proven wrong in which case I'll sell the CR70 set.

Have to say, I believe that cycling should be cheap and fun. That is why I have a Giant Revel and it has not given me any trouble over the last 150 days / 7500km. The CR70 are good rims but the spokes are starting to go now, guess they are not built for this kind of distance.

Good choice, have you ever heard of the Hub being wrong???

No, that is why I asked here in the first place. Always good advice for a noob like me, although I often hope there would be more el-cheapo minded bikers like me here.

Well there is a cheap way to do a tubeless conversion.

1. Buy 2 x 26Inch tubes......cut them open lengthways....

never mind, my shrink says its not good for me to think of my dark past............

Dont go the Crossmark route... trust me they are not great. Stick with Racing Ralph. With regards to seating the tyre, just put some dishwashing fluid on the bead, and as someone said, move the one side of the tyre to the centre of the rim (low point). That will make it easier... or just take it to your LBS they with sort it out pretty quickly. Once its been seated for a while, the bead actually stretches a little and then getting them on and off is a lot easier.

Fit the one side

Move bead to centre to rim profile

Fit other side

Lots of good advice here, but this is the secret. Moving the bead to the centre is Kryptonite to tough tyres

just think of the money you will save on tubes and patch repair kits... you wont regret going tubeless !!

I actually only had to replace tubes twice in the 150 days I had my bike and done 7500km. The tyres have linings as well as sealant tubes is. Previously I had numerous punctures but as of late, with the lining, not so much.

Yeah sorry about that...

LOL - it's fine   I enjoy it.

I'll keep that in mind when I am in the kark while out riding.

Running ZTR Crests with GEAX and Onsa tyres.

No problem fitting either or even sticking in a tube during a ride.

Once you go tubeless, you dont go back..
