Tubeless is awesome! I was also skeptical but after converting I see the light!

During JUMA I got a nice ~3mm cut in my tyre near the top of melville koppies, road down, up the next massive hill and down to the next bottleneck where it finally sealed with out having lost much pressure. Quick pump and no issues phaffin with patches and tubes!

Riding a pump track and doubled one of the sets, with and massive case that would have ended in a snake bite! The tyre (conti x-King) burbed a section off the rim ~10cm. Just pushed it back on with my fingers, a quick pump and back to riding!

You are riding those Giant wheels, WITH tubes, WITH liners, WITH Sealant...... Holy sh$t those wheels must be heavy........

Those Crests will feel like your driving an F1 car..........

Running ZTR Crests with GEAX and Onsa tyres.

No problem fitting either or even sticking in a tube during a ride.

Once you go tubeless, you dont go back..

Wow Im surprised those crests can handle your fatness :P

You sure you arent running arch?

The Giant Revel was about 20kg when I bought it, coming from a fairly lightweight Zaskar I really had to become a strong rider very quickly. Did some upgrades like a RockShox XC32 and some other bits and it is down to 17kg. The tubeless should help a bit.

Running lower pressures is also great for grip, cant do that with tubes unless snake bites are your thing.

I love high pressure on my MTB, used to riding on 3~4 bar, makes it all feel so twitchy and nervous. What pressure should I keep on tubeless?

Just ride faster and it will be twitchy!

I normally run around 1.6bar which was hard to get through my mind at first coming from 8bar on my roadie.

Dude with your height you could be a stick and still a bit too heavy for them.

Im eyeing a set of arch, awesome wheels those.

I have dipped as low as 1.4 bar, but run average 1.7 - 1.8bar. I weigh 78kg and the bike is 10.8kg and all extras (including bottles, spare tube, lights, helmet etc) is another 4kg.

Always remember when toying with your pressures and suspension setup, to take your fully kitted weight. And also when comparing numbers to other riders...

Mmm, what weight is OK on Crests? I am 85kg.

So 2 bar is too much for tubeless?

Depends. I'm ermmmm close to 100kg now  , and run 1.5-1.8 front and 1.6-2.0 rear depending on the terrain. Nothing over 2 though.

They were cheap R195 tyres that came off new bikes that went tubeless, so wire bead I assume. I'm telling you guys, it was freaking impossible to get them on these Crest rims.

There's your problem.

Only ever use folding tyres

The Good :

  • Bike lost 2kg weight, down to 15kg
  • Wheels and hubs looks kief

The Bad :

  • That hub is freakin' load when you free
  • At R5500 this whole exercise clock in at a mere R700 less than what I paid for the bike
  • Rolling resistance is a lot higher, despite being lighter I really have to put effort in on tarmac.
  • Did I mention it was kark expensive :)

But I'm gonna give it some time and see how it pans out. This could be good and I hope that like the bike I will be able to get my rands worth in kilometers. I am still keeping the CR70 wheels and fitted, with one hand I might add, the Racing Ralphs on them. Should I ever be let down by the tubeless and not able to plug it nor fit a tube I'm going back to basics.
