Started in A (and waited 15 mins) and the lady that crossed the bridge before stopped in the middle, myself and the oke behind me took a propper dive. To say I was pissed (and cold) is a understatement. Its safe to say that bridge f ckd up my race.

The bridge or the individual stopping on the bridge?????

I would have had a sense of humour failure in that cold water ????

but dumbfounded by the lack of skills even at the top end of the field. I think riders are getting too used to the manicured Sani2c type trails...

This (lately) is a re-occurring theme after every weekends events ????

The bridge. Looks like it was Engineered by High School students from Harties.

She stopped when she saw the middle portion of the bridge was about 15cm below water instead of using momentum to cross.

2 mates of mine who were even further ahead also took a dive due to the bridge giving in.

The route otherwise was good (tough as nails) but good.

Me.

So, the bridge wasn't build for the baffalo category ????

I was pissed yesterday, but today we're laughing about it.

Why? Are you one of them pushing your bike on sections that you should not be pushing? Lack of basic skills comes to mind

I did not do the race and I only do mountain biking, but I wonder why some one would say something like that - does the trails belong to any one? If you don't have the patience and sportsmanship perhaps you should leave the trails that  APPARENTLY belongs TO YOU?

Agree! The bridge was the same condition as it was last year. And I don't recall huge complaints after last year's race. I kind of recall same issues (as this year) for the 2013 race (although I didn't ride). So maybe it's more about the riders abilities than the bridge.

However, last year there were 'support' (guys on paddle boats) in the water and the marshals was adults and lots of adults around there. Not sure if those young kids (marshals) added to the problem in perhaps not getting the gaps correct. Although it is the riders responsibility to get the gap right; we were directed the kids

Maybe it's also a case of weight - at 70kg the bridge is really not a problem. Not sure how it behaves when a 90kg rider goes over it.

100kg rider respons.Kept momentum up to the middle when bridge started submerging and then if you were not exactly in the middle the front wheel slid away on a super slippery surface .Bike pedal gets caught between the planks and you cannot balance on slippery deck to get it out.Back in the water trying to get pedal out while somebody shouts to hurry up .Next rider already on his way tries to bunnyhop your bike .He falls in and his bike,s pedal also gets caught in the gap between the planks .Meanwhile yourself ,mobile phone ,car keys stay submerged while carrying your bike across .My 16year old daughter can design a better floating bridge ..At W2W all the wooden decks ,bridges are covered with chicken mesh ,ogiesdraad , so when the wood is wet ,there is still some grip .Amateur efford Bridge building

just out of curiosity, what was your time?

i was near the front of C batch and we stood for about 25 minutes waiting to cross the bridge.

Was in D group. Waited 30minutes to cross. When I went over nothing wrong with the floating bridge. Just enough momentum and not to light a gear. Those that I saw that fell was in too light a gear and could not increase momentum when the bridge started to get submerged. Last 2 years no such problems. Same bridge.

Ouch, this is a very different perspective!! With 70kg I wonder if my tyres where even deep enough so that the water touches the rims.

This is probably the single stupidest comment I have read all weekend, and I have just been on News24 for the last hour....

I agree totally!!!!!!!!!!!

I rode B batch, all 80 kgs of me. Waited maybe 4 mins at the bridge. Also had no trouble riding the bridge, but you do need momentum. The more you have the easier it it

I was in the last half of C batch when we arrived at the Bridge, and waited for 21 minutes.

The Bridge, once on it, was probably one of the most fun parts of the route for me! Pedal, aim for the middle, pedal, aim for the middle, pedal, and you're over!

I found the route very technical, and actually surprised myself by riding 99% of it, even if it was just to make sure all of you supremely gifted natural mountain bikers didn't shout at me when flying past at speed...
