Don't want to sound like a smart arse but 75km and 1000m ascent is hardly worthy of SA Champs. More Trailseeker than National series. Maybe to accommodate all the Super Group riders or another group of "corporates"?

Agree, somehow though would be the toughest of the Magalies Monster and Trial Seeker Bundu Bash the weekends before it.

Agree, the Euro marathon champs that CoolHarvey won was over a distance of 94km and an elevation of 2100m, which is more like it.  :whistling:

Why do we keep having to answer the same questions about car, investment, nutrition, gps?

To see if youve realised your mistakes

Am I missing something here? Surely our PRO's are competing in the ULTRA and NOT the Marathon? Which then should compare favorably?

I believe the marathon is made easier for plebs like me that is unable to do the tough Ultra....and maybe because everyone bitched and moaned after last years tough event.

Guess the organizers can only ever please half the crowd :whistling: . And as the saying goes, it wont be easier, we will only do it faster.....and hopefully make it in time for prize giving and a couple of cold beers.

What you are missing is that this race doubles as the SA XCM championships. As JCZA said, the marathon does not look difficult enough (on paper at least) for that purpose. The toughness of the route should not be a function of the length - I would have expected about 1500m of climbing in the 70km...

AAAHH, thanx sias. People were going off on a tangent about how difficult the European ultra was, and I thought that they were comparing that ultra to this marathon.

I do agree with you guys, all the other events (Sabie, Clarens etc) were more climb than that. Although as stated, the figures might just be there to lull us into a false sense of security! The terrain will be proper bad.

Just remember those climbs are not perfectly built rock free switchbacks, the downhills are going to give you a proper workout as well, if you can ride the downhills that is
