So how many of you are dirt roadies?

I come from a road and tri background. Been doing road for a good many years.

Long story short I did some trail runs at places that reminded me what was awesome about mtb. I last owned a mtb about 15 years ago so I went out and bought one.

Decided to hook up with some local guys but it seems my idea of mtb is different to most other peoples.

Looks like its mostly dirt roadie stuff, looking for max distance etc.

Is it just me that thinks mtb should be about singletrack and riding through the bush/forests rather than just bombing down the longest dirt roads you can find?

For me mtb is something like the nissan trailseeker hakahana matathon, van gaalens or the monster. I am by no means a good rider, but it kinda iterates me if someone tells me that they CAN ride a mtb but they did races like the down&dirty or the curro trailseeker. Dont get me wrong, those are really great races and not to be under estimated. I still fall my ass off and guys just look at me like whats wrong with you, cant you ride a bike?

I do a lot of distance on gravel road, but that is fitness training. I ride the mountain for fun, fire roads, jeeptrack and singletrack and game paths, and fire breaks

Not familiar with those races, is some of it very technical and some mainly jeep tracks/dirt roads?

MTB is all about the adrenalien, fast cornering, drifting out of the corners and doing it all over again! For me a long farm road is just like a Road bike.

See this is exactly how I see it, I have a road bike, if I want to do long distances with lots of climbing etc I would far rather use the roadie.

If Im offroad I want to have a bit of a challenge and variety, hitting corners at pace, handling drop offs and all the fun that comes with those things.

Been doing only mtb riding lately. Up down, up down, up down. Did a fairly flat 46km race last week and nearly died. My legs did not know what to do if not climbing or descending. Wake up call for sure. You need the long distance flat rides aswell.

Only thing district roads are good for is getting extra distance in for fitness, practicing my cuties and having fun trying to flick stones with my front wheel onto the other side of the road.

Also a roadie, I got into mtb'ing to experience something different. I ride shorter distances, but the fun and adrenaline factor is definitely there. On the mountain it's flat pedals, baggy shorts and dropper posts for me, you get my drift...

There is no right answer here - a little of everything is a winner.

Dirt roads for fitness and talking ***, smooth swooping single track to get your flow on, tight tech droppy rocky stuff to get the juices flowing - depends on your mood/goals.

yess some are Hellingly technical (in my opinion) ant the onther are just jeep tracks with no real climbing. Like I said I a quite new at all of this, but the thing that amazes me the most is I go to places and after a killer of a climb I am rewarded with an amazing view, then the adrenaline starts when you go down again. For nice and relaxing rides the is nothing that beats a nice flowing singletrack in the early morning

Im not looking to tell anyone what they do is wrong, was just wondering what most hubbers ride in general.

Im sure riding the fun stuff wont get you very far if you are preparing for a stage race.

I must say i love the single track and the down hills where you get to challenge yourself to new levels and hope you don't end up in ICU. As long as you having fun and enjoying yourself while getting fit. Dirt road is boring i have to say unless there's a good view to gain.
