Do they contribute to the site as a 'Site Sponsor'?

They do advertise with us so are a 'Site Sponsor'.

We're aware of the growing number of retailers using the classifieds to promote product offers.

While it can be a value add for users and the site as a whole, retail type ads do need to be channeled and marked correctly. Strictly speaking they do not fit with the intention of the Classifieds section as many have pointed out, however it has proven valuable to users and retailers to have these offers listed.

We're working on an area dedicated to retail offers which will co-exist with the classifieds, but not interfere with the user experience and not clutter the Classifieds as it's currently in danger of doing.

Any feedback or suggestions would be welcomed.

Glad to hear that a solution is trying to be found. I just found it rather irritable because often when I am in the classifieds section it is because I am looking for second-hand goods (and expecting second hand goods). As these are usually cheaper than retailers. This is why I am there in the first place.

A suggestion, under every section in classifieds (MTB, Road, Clothing and Accessories, etc) have a "Retailers" option. Retailers are allowed a certain amount of free posts in these sections, after this they are charged per post (these charges can be lower than normal ad prices) to make it economical for them to post as well as prevent spamming.

Just a thought...

Hi, From Mohamed at Autostyle

We have supplied many items to clients reading our adverts on this site and happy with our prices. I have read the post regarding us spamming and some readers not happy. Please email me or sms me your cell number and i will call you back so we can communicate and try to assist. mo@autostyle.co.za 082959500three. Alot of other dealers use the classifieds to advertise too. We have decided to use our adverts as 'DEALER' option so if you do not want to read it, search as 'OWNER'  i will edit those adverts soonest. Also to be fair to the site we pay for advertising with bump ups and advert spots, unlike many dealers who place adverts for free only. For the general user to benefit we will beat any price on GARMIN and THULE and as mentioned on previous posts our stores are open 7 days so a client may pop in to view or order online.  The only time i notice it a serious problem is when our adverts expire and they are repeated all at once and that looks like spamming. Our GARMIN and THULE in stock range is huge hence the many listings. We have been welcomed well by many clients shocked with our cheap prices of these items as well as being new with warranties from local agents. Please feel free to contact me anytime so i may assist.

I can just as well go to scamtree to find some goodies.  :cursing:  :cursing:

open the classifieds and what do I see,

THE SAME ADVERTS FROM THE SAME RETAILERS TAKING UP MOST OF THE FIRST TWO PAGES!!!

Admin: Can't we have a dedicated section under the classifieds for retailers?

I for one am glad to see the ads on the hub. The prices are better than any other supplier and that's what its about. It serves the cycling community in finding the best prices for brand new equipment. It also stops people from selling second hand goods for ridiculous prices without a warrantee. I can't understand what the issue is here, if you don't want to look at an ad just move on to the next listing as one would for any other listing placed by other members.

Some people have too much time on there hands or they have a hidden agenda and can't compete with the prices.

It shouldn't matter whether the ad is placed by a dealer or owner, new or second hand. If you are getting a guarantee with your purchase, why complain! It beats having to wonder whether your seller is legit.

Extreme lights does the same if not more "spammimg " as you guys call it, than autostyle when they post/repost their ads. Not sure what the big deal is, its all legit ads as per the admins.

Sure the adds are legal but I don't see how annoying people who browse the classifieds is a smart business strategy. After the second time it's just noise in any case.

There are many online stores with good prices and service that don't flood the classifieds like cwc and easybike. It may be old fashioned but you go onto the website and browse what you need. Or they create a thread when running a promotion.

I bought a Garmin from you guys. What I did notice is discovery vitality stickers on the unit. Isn't that fraud? Claiming a benefit from another company on someone else's behalf without their consent/knowledge?

I think its really unfair to make it an autostyle complaint forum all other retailers also use these classifieds as a route to connect with potential client the following retailers come to mind

Sportsworld

Evobikes

Extreme lights

Bike lane

Etc

These retailers have role to play.

I bought mine from a normal sports store and also came with a sticker. Garmin has a direct relationship with Discovery.

And they aren't "claiming" a benefit, there is a benefit to uploading your Garmin data to Vitality.

If every advert that annoyed us was bad business, there would either be no businesses left of there would be no adverts on TV....

The only advert that's annoying on the hub is that one of the "mom that lost all that weight in 3 weeks" that pops up on the landing page of the Hub itself, and that's only annoying because it's a lie.

I think the biggest issue for me is the fact that they re-list EVERYTHING at once, so if you happened to have advertised anything before them, it gets pushed down the page and gets missed.
