Epic or Scalpel?

Hi, any feedback from someone who has ridden both would be great.

Not sure on models but want to get an idea on handling, geometry, feel, etc.

You are looking for a province supporter that's happy to wear a bulls shirt at a rugby match!

Both those bikes have been engineered to be brutally efficient XC racing bikes, but go about it in very different ways.

They also have proprietary tech that is a very love/hate affair for most.

If you're thinking of shelling out the cash for that class of bike, yo have to test each and decide for yourself.

I had a S-Works Epic and now have a Scalpel Team.

Both are great bikes and the ride is virtually the same if you swap the headset bearing/spacer to the bottom on the Scalpel to make the head angle slacker. (very twitchy with bearing/spacer on top of head tube).

Epic Cons - Brain service takes a while and need to be done often for it to work the way it is supposed to all the time.

- Rear Brain need to be tuned properly to not have the bike feeling like it squats when climbing.

Scalpel cons - Rock Shox Sprintlock (if equipped) is a pain and only works for one ride at a time if you are lucky.

- Max stem angle -15, you do get a aftermarket one of -25 with a hefty price tag. (this only applies if you ride with a negative rise stem though.)

The way the Lefty does its thing would, by a small margin, make me choose the Scalpel.

Thanks for the feedback, fortunately I am not limiting myself to these two - they seemed to be the most comparable on the list though.

I have to say though that while it is a great bike, there just seems to be so many epics on the trails these days.

Nichol, thanks - that type of feedback is exactly what I was looking/ hoping for.

Does flipping the headset on the cannondale change anything else other than the angle?

Go and find the video on youtube where the Cannondale guys explain and illustrate the advantages of a lefty fork over any conventional fork...if you still want to ride a conventional suspension..then google medical help because I cannot help you.
