met an S-Werks rider this morning with a flat.

poor guy was a in pickle, so offered help.

he was concerned he did not have a pump or tube with him to fix a flat on his S-Werks tyre.

no problem I asked, have you checked your SVATT box ... low and behold, there is a tube, bomb and a single poor quality tyre lever inside.

fitted the tube for him and we parted friends.

ANOTHER YAY FOR SPECIALIZED!

ANOTHER YAY FOR SPECIALIZED!

kind of no

whipped out my decent tyre levers from my bag to get the tyre off.

S-Werks riders should at least know or be half decent at putting a tube in or fixing a flat .....

Anyway, was a cool guy in the end, so all good.

Seems like the Spez boys arent doing to well at the Epic.... ai

Apparenlty those S-Works Epics are absolute dogs on the climbs. Shem.

Sauser and Kulhavy would win it on any of the bikes being ridden by the top 20, only a fool would give the bike credit for their performance.

Edit: Next they'll be winning because Investec is a better bank than ABSA.

But why? He had his knight in shining armour to do all the spannering for him...

Stand on the side of the road long enough looking like a **** and sooner or later someone will realise you are one and stop and help.

Same reasoning why I used to stand 700m from the top of SuikerBossie in Cramp Zone, not much funnier than more cash than dash pushing his very expensive bike up a 5% hill after cramping.

But it escapes me why tubes are still needed.

They will probably win it on any of the bikes, but it is remarkable that they have such good reliability out of their bikes. The reason they would prevail would be because they have the most professional approach to the race, from the equipment used, mechanics, team managers right down to the guy that makes their coffee in the morning just the way they like it. The guys knocking off their designs and bringing in no-name brands should really be thankful. Without something as recognizable and reputable as a Specialized these leeches will have to come up with their own r&d and marketing. Imagine that!?

Think how boring it would be if they were all in a carting-type setup riding cheap generic carbon knock-offs or no-name brands. That would kill off mountain biking for sure!

Assos, Ritchey, Canondale all have the same pricing strategy, why would Specialized take a voluntary cut on their margin? If you don't like it, vote with your wallet. If they don't pioneer the development of cycling related tech, someone else will, and ask a premium.

Not sure if one can claim that specialized "pioneers" cycling related tech. They make good frames and they invented the brain damper. I don't want a brain damper, even if it would cost the same as a rockshox and I could get it serviced for the same price. Many companies out there are just as innovative with their frame and suspension designs. Nothing against them though so no hard feelings

Tube is a fail safe.

Riders S Werks Tyre was low on Stans and had a alien growing in it.

Tube saved the day and got the rider home.

I suppose when you buy a Spesh you don't expect to have to check things like sealant in your tyres, much less know you carry a toolkit with spares....great bikes, pity about the owners? Now I'm just looking for a china who can find me no name spesh like shoes, but don't tell G.

They have a huge R&D budget. They were early adopters of the 29 inch wheel size, carbon frames, through axles at the rear, innovated tech such as the brain damper and refined suspension design etc. If they had to suddenly become a charity that only breaks even, they would not be refining their frame designs almost annually. They offer a choice on their proprietary tech to a degree as can be seen at the Epic with the mens team riding the RS-1 and the ladies a more conventional fork
