Mr GaanLings, The number of posts you have made on this thread shows you seem to worry more about the Spez Brand than the guys who actually buy it.. :whistling:

Love that, hahahaha.

I ride a Spez Tarmac and I'm very disappointed by Spez SA's attitude by cutting loose Bridge Cycles in CT. They are a family business bike shop and have been around for about 27 years. They have supported and been loyal to Spez SA and has added much value to the Spez market in CT.

Their shop may not look like the Elite and Concept stores, but most people, like me, buy a bike from a trusted and established bike shop and bcoz of the relationship with that shop. Bridge Cycles care about each customer that walks through their door and aim to build a relationship with that customer. It's this environment and relationship that results in the same customer/s (and their kids, family and friends) that go back to them for their next bike and for any cycling needs.

It's not about fancy looking shops, but trusted bike shops and established relationships.

This is something Spez SA has forgotten.

Every story has two sides. I've heard that the latest "casualty" has had 3 years of pressure to convert to Concept store (a well communicated and documented strategy of Spez SA). The shop resisted and Spez eventually gave an ultimatum.

How much would the "conversion" have cost said store ?

Not sure. I've heard R800k, which isn't a massive number, especially considered over a three year period.

Not trying to justify Spez, simply saying that there are often more variables and facts involved than the typical keyboard warrior is willing to acknowledge.

Say this is true.

Bridge has started renovating the building across the street from their current store with the intention of turning it in to spez store before being handed a notice from specialized. I know that part of the reason why bridge started so late was because they had a tenant in that building.

By the sounds Bridge is not happy with losing the brand, who would be? I am sure Specialized SA can give a man more time to sort his building out.

But hey, maybe it suites their plans best if they just kick Bridge to the curb.

So there are these new shops sprouting up all of a sudden that are more than willing to convert to concept or elite stores. Because these stores have not spent years building relationships with suppliers of other brands while slowly and steadily building their company.

Some people value relationships built . Maybe (And I am judging a mans character from my personal experiences with him) Bridge wanted to be in a similar position as revolution is now by keeping his current store and having a dedicated spez store in the newly renovated building. This renovation will cost him more than 800k and he is going ahead with it any way.

The other thing that's wrong and bizarre about this is a bike brand dictating to a bike shop owner about converting his shop and giving ultimatums (if that's true). Next thing they want to tell him how to run his shop. #Just saying

Utter BS.

Commitment to build a new store was made and that is in progress. As usual the Spec disciples all flock to the defence of the indefensible.

that's exactly what they do. But hey, as long as you a Spec fanboy they can do no wrong.

Also noticeable is the demographic that receives the best treatment from Spez SA....

Clear and obvious strategy.

It is disturbing because in actual fact what they are doing is taking away a good percentage of a mans livelihood and redirecting it to the new kids on the block #revolution cycles and the likes.

They Specialized are no better than the mafia in the way they operate.

The man was Loyal, he cleared a crap load of their old stock which he is still sitting with and on top that he used to sell spez bikes like hot cakes, I witnessed this several times while visiting his store.

If the reason is for not converting his store quick enough then that is a BS reason of note.

Spec were in the new store under construction and said alls good . Next thing they were in bad with the bloke down the road.

make up your own minds but don't bitch about how *** the world is

Ja, listen, Bridge cycles sold Spez bikes like hotcakes. They had the best deals in town. Service was a bit slow, and the store was waaaay too small and cramped.  Once bought a Spez from them for 4k cheaper than anyone else, went for a ride and my rear derailer fell off. Wasnt screwed onto the frame. Did not even bother me. I am a huge fan of Spez Bicycles. They suit me, but the company can f0k off. They have no ethics.

Like I told Go Lefty today. My next bike is a Canyon.
