Pretty broad and inaccurate statement

But if you follow the word order: "You cannot compare a Giant to a Specialized   :o It's like comparing a Porsche 911 to VW Beetle  "

Giant = Porsche 911

Spesh = VW Beetle

Bingo. This is why there are Spez haters to begin with. What a load of rubbish.

Because certain people who ride specialized bikes (not all) firmly believe that a brand which costs more is inherently superior in quality.

Spez fanboys need to learn one thing.

Its the BRAND haters have a problem with. For reasons which are for the most part probably just arbitrary. The reasons haters try to justify tend to find root in the attitude of the brand itself and it would seem that when certain consumers (again not all) buy the product, they buy the attitude aswell.

I personally don't like the brand and the snot associated with it. But I give credit to where its due. Their bikes are superb. So is their merchandise. I will probably always drool over most of their stuff. But do I believe that they are simply the best brand in cycling and that their pricetags are justified by product quality? No

I honestly believe that those who are spewing vitriol and bile about the concept stores issue are missing the point.

Specialized SA wants to create a uniform brand experience for all customers (new and existing). However, these stores can't exist in a vacuum and must be put in place by having an existing LBS "converted".

HOWEVER, those stores that are revamped to Spez concept (or elite) stores still maintain their own individual identity and character. It is the people that make the store, not the brand.

Case in point: I bought my Spez from Complete Cyclist in Bryanston. I have a good relationship with the guys and gals, have always received excellent service and know that I can drop Mike a mail if I ever need anything. Does the fact that they are a Spez elite store make them corporate sell-outs or anything along those lines? No. The store still revolves around their staff and customer base.

To all the haters: if your favourite LBS tells you tomorrow that they'll be converting to a Spez concept store, would you write them off? If so, you need to have a long look at your priorities in life.

On a sidenote: I love the Specialized brand, but that doesn't preclude me from considering all other brands when making a purchase (I would love to buy a racing hardtail from Silverback(.

That dear sir is what sets you aside from the Spaz Bandwagon lot.

BTW, an elite store can hold other brands on the floor and in store vs just a Specialized.

I have a very good relationship with an Elite store near my house, but then again the person I deal with has been assisting me for 11 years already.

He was baiting you :)

But now that you made a statement, please expand a little?

What is it you hate about the Spez brand?

Edit: If the reasons are arbitrary like you say, doesn't that make the haters a little douchy too? I mean if you are going to passionately hate on something, at least have a good reason :)

haha, and I nogal fell for it hook line and sinker.

To answer your question simply because they are **** enough to do something like this

support-in-fight-with-bike-giant-specialized

It's not the first time they pull such *** either. At the same time they get away with patenting bikes models with names like enduro, epic and camber. Seriously. Need I say more?

Oh sweet lord, you just ruined a perfectly good thread with the bloody Parlotones!!!

No if you want something to hate......

What the hell was I thinking,

Was I thinking at all...

So its the legal battles they have fought, some really thin ones, that makes you dislike them. Cool, understood.

I also do not agree with always aggressively pushing brand protection to that limit.

Remember when Peugeot got it with the 1007, had to pronounce it  1, 0, 0, 7 and not 1, 007 due to the Bond guys being petty.

Nike famously had an issue with people who used silhouettes of people jumping, due to them using it on their Jordan items.

Apple just lost a case trying to bully a small company called Smartfish.

Point is, these guys who build a brand and spend lots of capital and effort doing it, will protect it vigorously.

Its not always right, and in the Spez Roubaix case it certainly was not right in my opinion!

Is this going to make me buy a Bell helmet when I really want a Prevail? I don't think so.

With all due respect, I believe this is bollocks. I like Apple products as do many other people. We don't prance around proclaiming Apple is the best, but non-apple users PRESUME this because we like the Apple ecosystem.

The same with Specialized - those who ride Spez love the bikes, the quality and the style. Those who don't own Spez PRESUME the owners are rich and pretentious because they bought an expensive bike.

Sorry, but that is a you problem.
