In Korea (my country), lots of cyclists use action camera and if a car drives pass very close to a cyclist, they report to police the photo of car's position. Hahaha then the car drive gets some penalties (money and point) from police.

I dont know I explain it well hahahha

Ps. Constantia neck.. omg.. every times at least once a car pass me like few cm from me... serious... :'( I hope I can use the side road..

Not sure how a law like this will be implemented if the simplest laws on the road is not even obeyed.

Drove to work this morning to see about 3 cars ignoring the same red light... I felt like a poepol for stopping at the red light.

Maybe the slogan could go like "Don't worry, you will get there on time".

The law will certainly help in the case of an accident (why it called an accident when it is actually negligent or the result of illegal driving when under the influence of alcohol or speeding), now the driver can be taken to task for knocking a cyclist as he was within the 1m zone

Oh DJpak.....on the Nek I have been knocked by a rubber duck already with the driver of the car towing it coming in way to fast and close. Nearly ended up in a very nasty accident.

That is great news, but how about advertising that it is a law to cycle in the cycle lane as well!!

Have you tried using the "identified" and marked cycle lanes in the Helderberg? You need a mountain bike first of all for getting onto and off the pavements and be alert for signposts that are in the way and could scalp/decapitate you. Then there are all the parked cars and pedestrians that have zero awareness or respect for the lanes.

These "lanes" are a joke. Sorry, it's a lot safer in the traffic.

Pretty much as useless as the ones in Cape Town: http://www.capetowngreenmap.co.za/blog/green-cycle-lane-bree-street-%E2%80%93-sa-first

They're usually occupied by delivery vans or people, as is the case with Adderley Street:

Wow. Helderberg's problems are nothing compared to those pics.

Yes these are true and law enforcement are not playing their part as usual. But what about other areas. One that comes to mind is from riverclub past hartleyvale stadium. I use this lane and yet you stil get guys during peak hour traffic weaving in and out of cars at the bottle neck as apposed to riding in the cycle lane

Have you tried cycling in the cycle lane/double parking lane on Bree Street?

And the City just repainted it, for what I dont know?

But you are right. Where there are cycle lanes peeps should use them if possible.

All good and well cars keep 1m, but going up Chappies today, cyclist still bunch 3,4 next to each other, making it impossible to pass without endangering yourself.

One section, 3 ladies were riding in the middle of the road, not even trying to stick to the left, just bunching in the middle. No wonder drivers get upset.

I would have made a comment if they weren't wearing earphones....but that's another story for another day.

Yes, the emergency lane is quite wide, but keep in mind you're not the only cyclist on the road.

Is this shirt for the European Market?

Dont be daft, they dont need to read it....the euro's all know what it's like to ride a bicycle on the road...

its a case of do to others as you would have them do to you....

Quite simple actually, works for just about everything in life

Is this shirt for the European Market?

It was the prototype for the PPA Safe Cycling campaign to be used in SA.

However the message was a bit harsh at "One metre, it's the law" so we have changed to a more conciliatory message and have adopted the slogan "Stay wider of the rider". The images below are close to what production will be.

New shirts will be available in January 2015 for PPA offices.
