GU seems to have some rhythm now, I get the feeling that there was a longish portage section where JN had a bit of an advantage. What athletes, I would have been in survival mode just outside Bloem!

Was there a portage? Down in the Tankwa?

Incredible performances we're seeing here tonight

So if you were John, would you just sit on GU wheel and wait for a sort of sprint moment ? Conserve the energy?

or do you hammer it past and break the spirit letting the guy know you still go lots of power in the legs ?

There is still a long way to go and two big climb where if someone blows they could easily loos 30mins. so if I was John I would sit pretty 50m back and bide my time, then go for the kill on the climb.

Edit: John has a sprint on him as well, he came over me when I jumped him for the line last year.

Anyone know what happened to GU? I don't mind if either of these take the win... But my gut says GU deserves it a little more because of his strategy

I am rooting for John who is by far the under dog. Lives in the valley of 1000 hills and I'm 99% sure riding his stock standard 650B bike.

LE and VR are at that section now speeds are 3 and 2,1 km/hr respectively, I would fall off my bike at that speed!

oh crud...

John has caught GU........ might be the sat refresh.... but it looks real......

Nah they seem to be pacing each other, If I do crude correction for the satellite delay I would say JN is about 2 kms behind.

This is mesmerising. It is Friday night and I am watching my computer screen....

I have been looking at the RACE FLOW screen - John has been amazing in pacing / not resting much. No matter what the outcome - a new name on my Heroes List.

It's a road, or used to be one. I had a good look on google maps and mapped the climb, there are sections over 30%
