I should've done it years ago when I first started talking to you about cx bikes...

What is the consensus on riding chinese cyclo frames? This is quite a nice looking frame. Available in thru axle as well

I've done an 180 on these frames (used to be keen on them) since a local club member was put in hospital with a broken pelvis after riding a chinese import road bike that fell apart on a rather serious decent.

I know they might be fine - but I've made up my mind around the 'what if's' and they're no good for me...

Also the feel of steel is something quite special...

Was going to mention that. Steel is special and I'd simply hate to ride a carbon frame over 100km+ ride of gravel grinding...

Agreed. Once you remove the fork and add smaller profile tyres the ride gets ummm "firm".

Steel takes some of the zing out.

Not sure I'm the kind of guy that would take a CX bike to a MTB race though - much as I like pain - being battered about doesn't make me feel like a real mountain biker.

Personally CX?monster bikes are for CX races, commuting or mucking about.

Hi All

Quick question to judge feasibility on one of these Cyclo Cross Bikes.

What I want

1) Bike that would be suited to doing 1-2 road races a year

2) Bike that i can use on the spruit for the 20 km after work specials

3) Riding with the family (small kids)

I dont have any old bits laying around.

What can i get for ?

1) R5 000

2) R10 000

Dont mind building.

Have my hart set on steel

Thanks

if you are happy to spend some cash... check out the niner rlt9. You can get the frame locally and then build up with whatever components you want. I'm building 2 at the moment...
