Some thoughts

Amex Class - rims wider but lighter, doesn't that make it a bit softer, thinner and more flexable?

Crossmark - heard some bad things with after sales ie if you break 1 spoke they change all of them and that can get costly

Broke 1 of mine from a rock that flicked up strangely and into the spokes on my rear wheel...

10 minute job to take the cassette off, replace the spoke and true the wheel. Did it myself. Replacing all sounds like a crap story to me.

My wheel is still true after the repair over 1000km ago.

I have the AC wide lightning and punish them. Held true after 6 months and some hard terrain.

Also think they happen to be the best looking wheelset out there.

Great wheels and can highly recommend them. I haven't ridden the mavics.

If you plan on using your wheels for a long time, you need to consider that the Mavic agent don't keep stock of spares for older models.  Last year, a rider I know, had to organise a rear wheel at very short notice before a stage race because the agents did not stock spare spokes for his 2009 Mavic Crossmax SL wheelset.  So one might need to keep a few spares yourself.  Still great wheels though.

wide lightning, wtb and also dont pigeon hole sunringle

Both great , but wider is better i.m.o. so AC, and also less expensive to replace damaged rims.

If you prefer faster engagement and probably a little stronger the MAVICS are better but if you need to repair the mavic system is expensive as you will inevitably end up replacing some spokes as well as the rim and you will have to deal with Mavics *** service.

Looks like the AC's is leading the charge, I do not want to struggle with after sales service as my time off work must be spend on trails and on the phone trying to fix stuff but damm those Mavics look nice!

Wide Lightnings are awesome wheels. After 1000km of trail riding still going strong (my weight is 80kg for interest sake).

They grib the tyres more solidly than my ZTRs. You can run your tyre softer and it still feels stable on fast turns. No sideways rolling. This is also a good safety feature. Even if you flat you will unlikely pop the tyre off the rim.

I was running a super low pressure for testing one day and that earned me a small smilie. However that was a hard ride on rocky stuff, and it can be fixed. The ride feel was good but 1 bar was just too low to protect the rim.

Bottom line, I would buy them again.
