I expected a tough rough but not how tough. :(

Got a taster of the 30km route but waved the white flag after 20 and found a district road back.

Thanks so much to blondeonabike and chainsaw for suffering through a longest day while covering the shortest distance with us. You guys totally rock.it was fun after I picked up my lungs.

P.S. my OH dropped his oakleys along the home stretch of the 30. We're here till Sunday if anyone finds it. Some beer can be had for its return.

Mention it to Steve at the club.  Okes are generally good handing in stuff they find on the trails.

Uni, it was an absolute pleasure getting to know you guys.

You are now part of the club, and have donated some blood at Karkloof.

Worth it for the descent options...

We are riding firetower and the face tomorrow at 6am.  Usual spot to meet.  Total about 35km.  You can come if you leave the pink water bottle at home this time ;)

The pink bottle doesn't like getting rained on... unfortunately.

Planning a late afternoon last-of-2014 adventure ride from Karkloof Club on 31 Dec.

There will be about 10 check points hidden/spread out in the forests and you will be given a list of clues as to where they are. Do them in whatever order you want...but you have to take a selfie at each one to prove you were there. Individual or team...but if a team then all riders must appear in the selfie (so you cant split up and take shortcuts)

All checkpoints will be on the Karkloof falls side of the trails and will make use of the awesome singletrack and scenery. Clues will be relevant to the area and/or relatively easy riddles :)

Open to all ages and geared towards fun more than a race

R10 per rider entry fee and a few fun prizes for the participants

Registration : 2pm at Karkloof Club

Start : 230pm

All riders in by 430pm

I reckon the 30k with a deviation to the fire tower is the best combo

I know what you are suggesting....... ;) It involves a 3km long snake. Best eva!!!!!

But then you miss out all epic stuff [emoji22] Jewitts, Gauntlett, Sahara, Voodoo. Skip Kruger park and go straight to Batt out of hell and then Rene's. Then you can do the 30km loop.

On a serious note OP if you have a garmin or etc. And would like the 60km out and back loop give me a shout.

About 2km before the end of the 30km loop you can link onto the 15km Falls loop to extend the descent. Makes for a overall ride of about 40km with nice flowy technical bits. If you want more challenging stuff then Spoke101's suggestions above all good fun. There are enough trails there to keep anyone busy for a few days, even more if you link across to all the Howick trails. Enjoy

Spoke101 Such epic rides are awesome....but I can't leave my kids for too long.  There will be no house left when I come back  :nuke: Plus Rene and I had a rumble last weekend. I want to go back again when it is much drier.

Hahaha, I can imagine. Must stay I am very lucky to have been able to knock out some 9hr rides in that place, best day on a bike ever.

Rene's is very rough at the moment, rode it about a month ago on my hardtail and felt like I was riding a jackhammer. [emoji12]

Seriously washed out at the moment. Rode down Rene's a few days ago. It's in the worst condition it's been in a long time. Definately ridable and fun - just a lot rougher and sketchy. More technical and less free flowing.

Rode the 30km and a portion of the 15km last Sunday. .OMG with out a doubt some of the most fun iv had on my bike. ...went otb hitting one of the doubles and did each gap jump abt 4 times.cried when my riding buddy said we needed to head back...had a little fun on the pump track to round the day off.will definitely be back for the outback trail...was able to ride everything without to much trouble on the 30km on my 100 travel DS. Bring on the outback trail next time and bat out of hell.
