Scott warranty (what warranty?)

So I bought a Scott Spart 60 used. The bike was 3 weeks old and had been ridden once. Came ata agood price so I wasn't complaining ...yet. On Tuesday I go for a quick ride with friends at Northern Farm on the 22km route. Nearing the end of my sedate ride my swing arm snaps, ending in a 500m walk for me. I contact the dealer who sold the machine thinking I will have the problem sorted in no time and will be riding by the second week in January. I wasn't wrong, but Scott doesn't warranty second hand bikes, so the cost is all mine. I am now going to replace the swing arm and will be purchasing a Trek frame for build over. The Scott frame I will sell, although the ride is great. When my mate cracked his Trek frame they sent a new one via courier, no questions asked, and a current year even though his old frame was 5years old. I will now never recommend Scott to anyone ever again, as well as actively campaign against the brand.

It's the way it is, but why? The product carries the warranty not the owner?

I think it's BS. Cars warranties carry over.

A warranty is on product quality. How does me buying your bike make it deteriorate?

How is the carbon becoming weaker by the selling/purchasing process?

This is merely a ploy to stunt a second hand market and drive retail sales.

Dis toss!

Strange to break a frame on only the second ride. Sedate ones at that. You will find most/all brands have the same policy. This is the dealers problem.

Why does the dealer/shop disclose ownership to the importer/distributor? If it's a valid claim, no abuse, real product failure? If I was the shop I'd stop selling that brand because it will end up losing me customers in the long run. The bike warranty should be tracked on its serial number.

How many people keep their slip after purchasing a bike? How exactly can say Scitt prove you werent the first owner..... I agree, its the product you guaranteeing not the owner.

For interest, if you buy your bike or frames oversees, whats the warranty status then.

Not a pleasant policy, there is no legitimate reason for it, as long as the item has not been abused how many owners an item has had is neither here nor there.

It sounds like one of those bikes that you find here on the hub. 2001 Trek, as new only done 15 km
