My dilemma is: Upgrade to a 150mm Pike on the Trance 2 or go big with a stock 2015 Reign (if I can get my hands on one before it's SOLD)

Any comments?

Reign for sure!!!! Absolutely love mine, and comes standard with so much more compared to the Trance. Only problem is getting your hands on one, but I promise the wait is well worth it.

Depends on your riding style:

Trance for longer rides, better for climbs and probably all round. Still a VERY capable bike.

Reign is quite hardcore. Buy it if you live for the way down and want to ride the rough stuff and jump over and off everything you see. It really is a good pedaller as well for what it is.

I have the Reign and am super happy. A nice thing about the Reign 2 is that it comes with a dropper post and proper rims. A Trance will need a dropper and rims as well if you want to do anything decent.

One last question for Trance 2 27.5 owners. You happy with the stock Fox fork and did anyone try to swap it out for a Rockshox Pike Solo? (most say the dual air not really worth it) How much will the bike shop typically charge extra if you want to do the swap straight away?

Hey..

I went that route. Recently bought a 2015 trance 2, upgraded the shock to 160mm Pike as part of the deal. So I cant comment on the original fox fork, but damn I love this bike. My anthem x29er sits gathering dust waiting for the next race ... Ride Giba pretty much every weekend and the trance is perfect for it. The suspension keeps the wheels planted firmly even over the rough stuff.. Taking her to my first Enduro at Karkloof in feb. cant wait !!

I'm in (almost) the same boat - looking to sell my XCM bike and buy a longer travel trail bike. I was quite surprised to see how limited the 650b trail category seem to feature. One bike that seems a very good option is the Santa Cruz 5010. Does any one have one or have experience with it?

It's a great bike. A ripper! Light, fast, agile and very capable. Will not represent the same value for money as the Trance, but if you can get your budget there go for it.

And I don't know how you can say that there's no choice in the 650b trail segment.
