Suspicious Times on Racetec

Why would you want a better seeing if you're just going to get dropped by your group?  I don't get it...

They can then start an hour or 3 earlier and have the benefit of some cooler and less windy conditions. Many of the second half of the field do not enjoy group riding, so its a solo effort anyway, so why not try and get an early start <disclaimer - I am in no way condoning any form of cheating, its just quite clear why some would resort to cheating>

Here is the response from Racetec:

I trust my email finds you well!

Please advise the course of action that you would like us to pursue, I have noticed a common trend with the exception of Gerda, all of the cyclist have done their fastest times at the Value Logistics fast one. The possibility exists that they started in the long route and dropped down to the shorter distance.

Kind regards,

I noticed a few odd times as well in our starting group for the 126km. The group (most of it) stuck together till end but there is a couple of guys who supposedly started in out group that took like 10min and 5min out of the bunch. I call bull****!

Kind regards,

Again poor marshaling. Perhaps PPA should hand out different colour stickers for the race numbers to make sure that start chute marshals can stop short route riders from starting in the long route batches.

I see the one girl came second female. This should have been resolved on the day by the csa commesiuer (sp) ...if it was not then the result is technically legit....soooo...was this a csa sanctioned event?...and if so...we the comm sleeping or the event organiser skimping and didn't follow due process??

Or just put an additional timing mat to pick who changed their mind and did the short route.

The longer "seeding" races have at least 1 additional timing mat at the furthest point.

Or maybe the organisers knew who the podium finishers were without referring to Racetec the next day? Unless this girl is claiming her prize money it is an obvious mistake that happens often on Racetec.

im sure they use the timing system to generate a podium listing. The formal requirements are to on the day post the overall and age group category winners and then announce over the PA where they are. people then have 15 or 30 min to dispute and the comm needs to arbitrate. At the same time the full result sheet also needs to be posted and updated regularly to also handle disputes

I rode the Value Logistics Fast One yesterday. I started in GL, as I got stuck in traffic going to the start, and got there late. I was riding close to front of the group. When we got to the split of the short and long route, I saw a rider turn down the short route. No idea if they were male or female. Kind of wondered how their time was going to be calculated, then forgot about it until I saw this thread. That might be the explanation.

I was looking at road events and times on Racetec and found a few suspicious entries. I find it a little strange that some of these girls can ride one race like an amateur and the next like a pro. Have a look at these screen shots:

Am I missing something?

In order to qualify for any prizes or podium positions you have to start in your age groups racing category. ie. $, VA, VB, VC, etc.

So evennif you had the fastest time you wouldn't win. The winner is the first person across the line in the racing categories.

It's not just about winning. It's about possibly cheating the seeding system. That's just not fair. And even if it's not intentional, there should be an accurate way to track the times. That's what Racetec promises to deliver and that's what we'll help them do ;)

On the podium finishes, the officials identify the order on the line and I guess this gets checked against the timing co. at that point.

In the ladies section very often the fastest ladies come from the open-seeded groups as they are allowed to ride with the men and in large bunches.

The elite ladies bunch often becomes very tactical and is about position, not time.
