Well, the guy first tried to blame Shimano but when I threatened to call the rep myself, he very quickly changed his story and he said he would sort it out but to this day, nothing has been done

yoh yoh yoh...

Michelle, did you check your bike's serial no? did you even get your bike back? That would be the end van die prent.

does anyone know said bike shop?????, lets get them here before this escalates the same as the last few bike shops getting slated and maybe for once we can have a "happy ending" without the threats of law suites and lawyers

The shop is in Johannesburg, it took a lot of thinking before I decided to slate them on The Hub, but i am getting nowhere with them directly so I am hoping that this will light a flame under their butts

...and if this is in fact the case, it is not their fault.

The fact that her topcap / spacers and cranks all went funny over night makes me think there is more to this.

The sooner they make an appearance here the better....redhub, ping ping ping

That looks like a Vipa. As far as i know they have carbon stays.... Is that white paint on there? Where is the graphics thats normally on the stay?

My guess they broke the stay somehow and did a botched repair. Not good  :cursing:

it is the Vipa, the graphics are on the other side of the wheel. I have no clue what they did because the owner says that it wasnt them that did it so I cant even get the full story from them. I would have loved for them to just tell me exactly what happened and fix it, then this whole thing would be over and we could all move on

OP, are you 100% sure that you got YOUR bike back.

Do you have your serial no somwhere....double check ASAP!!!

To be honest, I didnt even think to check the serial numbers but I have the serial number for insurance purposes so I will definitely check it out

Re the shiny cranks - that highly polished finish is achieved by buffing the aluminium with a buffing wheel and some rubbing compound. No ways cranks are that shiny from just removing the anodising.

The chainstay damage, is for me still the scariest part of this scenario. if this is what a carbon frame looks like after less than a year of use - I dont want any of it....

Ping, Redhub Cycles....please reposrt to TheHub rant and rave section......

look forward to their reply, but I have a query on something that doesn't quite add up. Did you buy the bike in Sep 2014, and it's already been in for lots of issues in, 4 months?

Its hasnt been through lots of issues, the first time I used the shop was to do my set up, then I did a few muddy races so I got them to replace bearing etc, just small things

The chainstay "damage" is not caused by funny cleaning methods/chemicals, but, I can tell you exactly what happened to your chainstay, you had at some point, a tube wrapped around it as a "slap sock" the carbon underneath has become "stained" that way, similar to when placing a wet cup on a wooden table, there is a that white mark left behind.

Over time it will get better, this is not isolated, do a Google search, structurally the chainstay is sound still.

If you did not have a tube on the chainstay, then that aint your bike....

Thanks Mackie, I did have a rubber tube on there for a few days but the marks only appeared after they had it. How long would it have to be wet for before the marks appear? So if it is just stained like that, does that mean that the carbon isnt really weakened by it?

Bottom line as has been said a few times already...BOTH sides of the story are needed. If not, it becomes another thread with speculation all over the place without the proper facts.

I for one am very curious because I have used these guys before several times......

This is only part 1

Agreed, silence from their side is not the smartest move at the moment. Has anyone mailed them a link to this page yet?
