Terrible service from RedHub Cycles

The main issue for me is, if the chemical used, damaged the anodizing on a few parts, and did that to the chain stay, how on earth is that the only damage? Surely the entire bike and its components would show some sort of damage and not be localized to a few components?

I'm calling BS here, this makes no sense, non.

I can't say that I agree with you swaerie, see the damage is localized in places where there is anodization(harsh chemicals are known to discolour this) or where run off didn't happen when the bike was rinsed(under the chainstay). Take a red / blue / green / yellow kcnc spacer kit and leave it in clean green / prepsol. See what happens. Now its entirely possible that the bike shop used a very concentrated de-greaser to wash the bike, forgetting to dilute first AND / OR they simple forgot to rinse the bike straight after the degreaser mist was sprayed on.

Bike shops normally have dedicated bike wash guys, they just wash bikes. They couldn't be bothered with how concentrated the de-greaser is or how much they apply, nevermind how long the degreaser sits on the bike...they wash bikes in batches and it would be very possible to forget to rinse one. Throw some harsh summer midday sun in the mix and that very innocent bottle of de-greaser becomes your bike's worst nightmare.

The fact that other bikes have been washed with the same degreaser defense doesn't hold any water in my opinion....Can the bike shop guarantee that de-greaser was of the same concentrate(as a bike shop they buy in bulk / concentrate) or that Joe the bike washer didn't leave it on by accident and left it to dry in the sun...No they can't. The damage happened on their premises...KLAAR. Now I hear your point about it probably not causing any structural damage, it doesnt matter to me. If my car gets washed at the dealership after a service and its got a spot of paint damage I would expect them to fix / replace, eventhough I can still drive my car.

I would be just as upset, maybe even more than Michelle.

Going through something like this with a Reverb Seatpost right now

Just an observation.... anodizing is removed with Caustic. Some household cleaners contain caustic. If a household cleaner was used to degrease the area around the crank, this would account for the discolourisation of the crank as well as the rear chain stay...

The fact that the bikeshop also is not divulging their brand of bike detergent, is also a bit fishy.

1) the do not wish to incriminate themselves

2) they do not wish to damage the relationship they have with said detergent supplier (probably also a member on the hub.

To me this thread has become truly useless. Too much slight of hand posting, witholding facts etc etc.

To me, the only way we get a true reflection of the stories, is by posting chronological sequence of events, with all the details revealed.

Too many people get away with proverbial (and not-so-proverbial) murder, because they are happy to withold truths that will certainly incriminate them. A person's word, and even oath means sweet blue these days...

mmmmm I reckon we can do a mythbuster thing here....I have a couple of anodized stuffs that can exposed to various solvents, time and sun.

This whole thread needs a mythbuster...........

Playing devils advocate here, but the complainant mentioned a very muddy race in Sabie (thus the service), was the bike washed at Sabie (or sometime after the race & before getting to the LBS)? If so could a chemical have been used then?

Hi Super_mil Sabie was super muddy, I rinsed my bike personally after every race with water and clean green. anyone that does stage races knows that there is no taking components apart and soaking them for hours after the race, you clean your bike and then you chill out

what i dont understand the O.P stated that they wanted to bring this to the publics attention ????

then posts this

Thank you everyone for you input and theories.

I have acheived my goal of getting a reaction from RedHub,

the OP  is not happy none of us would be, but i think nothing constructive  will come from

allowing this thread to continue it will only result in every hubber breaking down every detail into their

interpretation of events, both parties are just working themselves up this cannot lead to a settlement

of events??????????

OP why not ask admin to lock this thread and try take this forward like adults over the phone,, bike

shop reputation at stake and simply try work through it,,,,,if you dont get the results you want ask

admin to re open and come out bags swinging,,,, if it was my company i would try solve the issue

asap if they feel that strongly about it then by all means both carry on to a point where neither is going to be happy

Service industry has gone to **** these days. At the end of the day, the bike shop, for lack of a better word, ****** Michelle's bike up. As far as I'm concerned, she has every right to blow her top, and based on those emails I don't even think she did. If my bike came out looking like that, honestly, I'd have freaking lost it.

As far as I'm concerned, Red Hub needed to do everything possible to fix that bike up to Michelle's expectations. This denial of any wrong doing because it's never happened before is quite frankly, a load of tosh. You took the bike in under your watch and you gave her back a bike with paint completely stripped off. You should have just apologised and got it sorted soonest. How freaking long does it take to get a set of cranks?

This is lousy, lousy, service.

Seriously?

That is a crap bit of luck, hope you get sorted.

Is it really getting to the point where we have to photograph the bike from all angles before it goes in?

Maybe the shops need to institute a system like the cell companies have where a list of scratches/damage etc is completed when you drop the bike off?

Yep, considering the price of bikes they have to....at toyota(honeydew toyota) they do an inspection when you book the car in detailing scratches and other issues that are present, you have to sign this doc. This will protect the shop and the client...saying the bike came in like that is not a defense.
