Latest from evidence given from truck driver as well as person in car behind truck and family members give a different story. For those who commute on a regular basis they will know as you come close to the Woodbridge island robots the bike lane splits into 2.That is where there is a kink just after the sub station. The cyclist stayed on the right path where the cycle lane splits.Still on the bike path, not in the road.As was said it was a windy day.The statement from the truck driver said that the cyclist seemed to clip a brach of a tree that was hanging over into the bike path with his bar, slinging him into the road.

Needless to say the very next day the municipality were there to remove the tree and I notice today there is a major clean up and cut back of the trees and bushes that have been encroaching onto the bike path for a while.

Real sad story.

Not sure if **** is going to come of this.

that makes me both sad and angry at the same time!

so a proper accident, as in no one directly involved being culpable.

Some think they are on a racetrack and please just get out of the way so they can continue.  No whistle to let you know  they are approaching from behind (we all know you cannot always hear a bike approaching) So make a noise (a nice one) whistle and we get out of the way but to try and actually ride you off the path and then continue with lots of shaking the head, cursing etc.  Really???

There's a BMW Driver inside many a cyclist, unfortunately. I love the "I'll creep up on you from behind and then act like its your fault that you don't have eyes in the back of your head."

The "then acting like its your fault" bit is deplorable but I have a question .... If you are approaching from behind at speed do you

A: shoot past and not frighten the earphone wearer you are passing until you have passed or

B: make yourself heard just in time for them to get a fright and swerve into you?

C: slow down, ride their slip until they suddenly look at you as if you are a creepy serial killer?

I think a simple bell is a must for a commuter to warn other cyclists and pedestrians of your presence, much better than whistling or shouting. And then say HI as you pass.

We use bells, but they don't seem to be very good. Too much abiant nose from car's and wind. When it rains the Bell also does not work well.

The best tool is a whistle. ......followed by a wave of thanks, the manner in which you use the whistle is critical. There is a huge difference between a polite tone and a end if the final of the world cup soccer game.

I find it hard to believe this evidence. After I read this I went and had a look at the place where it happened. No sign of tree being removed or of a branch being removed

Hello. Is the route from Milnerton into the city along the dedicated bus/bike route (i.e. away from the car route) safe during daylight hours. As someone that has just moved to CT and plan to commute on this path I have not seen anyone use the path in the last week? Any advice please.

The part that has the real issues is where you go under the N1. That is the real hotspot where almost all of the issues have come up. If you ride in a group you have safety in numbers and no issues along any part of the path. Try waiting for someone at the bus stop before going through this piece so that you can tag along through there. Most of the commuting crew are friendly and will gladly wait for you should you ride a slower pace IF you have expressly asked to tag along for safety!

That is really good advice and exactly the kind of info I needed. Thank you so much.

Agreed, I looked at it as well yesterday and it does not make any sense.
