Roadie... help with choices

Ok, so it's time for an upgrade...

considering

  • Specialized Roubaix
  • Giant Propel
  • Merida Reacto 4000

All the bikes are carbon and running Shimano 105 (11 speeds). all pretty much the same price too.   the bike needs to be comfortable enough to do some social/charity rides as well as cross over into triathlons and quicker races... they are all great bikes and are so similar but so different...

any suggestions or feedback from people who have ridden them???

Propel and Reacto are both "aero" bikes if I'm not mistaken ... so I'd agree that they are similar.

The Roubaix is more conventional imo, and recognised as a more comfortable racing bike.

I'm riding a Tarmac, so possibly a little biased.

That said, the Propel would get most of my interest at this stage ...

Not being biased here about Giant's bikes but when you walk into a shop and something immediately grabs your attention...

Giant Propel - Just so bloody beautiful!!!!

The real choice you goto consider what colour propel can you get your hands on...

You say "comfortable," then cross the Reacto and Propel off your list. They are certainly not comfort orientated bikes. They are aero bikes designed to be fast. Both are stiff as hell and make you sit in a low down aero position.

If you want comfort from those brands, then look at the Giant Defy and the Merida Lite (I think that is what it is called, I could be mistaken).

The Roubaix is famous for its comfort.

I agree that the Propel is a very special looking bike... it was my first choice when i saw it!  damn... but i am worried that it might be a bit uncomfortable for those long slow rides... 04h30 94.7 makes the butt a bit eina... hahaha!

I had a look at the Roubaix last week and it peaked a bit of interest because i had never seen the dampeners before (i know ridiculous, like i have been living under a rock for the last few years).  the colours on the Roubaix sport are ok but still not as sexy looking as the Propel...

The carbon seems to be pretty ok quality across the bikes too...

You can not compare roubaix with propel at all. Apples and nuts.

PS ....

Check the groupsets closely.

Some brands tend to mix with OEM stuff - not necessarily an issue but may play a role in your decision.

You cannot go wrong with any of those brands..all great bikes, however the Giant and Merida that you mention are built for speed. You only get a real advantage from the aerodynamic design when travelling at above 38km per hour..(roughly)Defy and Merida Scultura carbon would give almost the same performance but much more comfort.
