Ja Ja Ja,,,are you the one that's been in my head all this time? :whistling:

I know scuba and you are 100% correct.

But first time doing Argus and getting the sub 3 would be a killer for Bragging rights.

And seeing that im doing it first time and only been cycling for a few months .....why not just go for it.

The way I see it , I will need to pace according the 3hours landmarks. If the group helps me out...great , if not... I will still try and achieve them.

Rather fail trying then fail without even trying, my 2c

Nothing wrong with trying, go for it. Just don't let an awesome experience sneak by you unnoticed while you are fixated on one thing. Enjoy!

The group/peleton you are in is everything. My advice would be to ride hard in the beginning to get into a decent bunch that are moving along at a good pace. Then conserve energy for the majority of the race by riding smart thereafter and staying with the bunch. Do some pulling because everyone should do some hard time, but then after that fall back and sit in the pocket. You will need energy at the end to just "hang on". Unless you are flipping amazing on a bike, you are not going to ride at the required 36.5kph solo on what is likely to be a windy day. That's just not how it works, although it often helps to learn this the hard way!

That's the plan.

Same like we did in the 99er, pull very hard over the first 20km, catch a group or 2 and let then hang on

Only Tony Martin can look at the time chart and control his effort accordingly.

Hehehe

Otherwise, aim to stay in the top 10-15 racers in 2A as your highest priority and get to the white chalk with the best possible finishing time.

2A

From 2A it is doable but depends on the wind. Little wind and 1000+ will ride sub 3 as opposed to 300 on a very windy day.

With the old seeding you had to be exceptional to get sub 3 if you started in a group after "E", so if yours is the equivalent of "S" then I'm afraid it's going to be very difficult!

Anyway good luck and enjoy your ride!

Not sure if 2A will cut it.  My only previous argus was on a windless 2011 and I started in G (should be equivalent to 2A I think?) and only 2 guys in the group managed a sub3.  The rest of us in the main bunch came in at 3:07

Edit:  I just counted the bunches and although we do not know the bunch sizes, 2A would likely be closer to the old group K.  Sorry to say but in that case you are doomed...

Me seems to think that 2A is better than the old K group

My seeding index last year was 26 and I was in C. This year it is 19 and I am in 1F.i think only one person after C group was sub-3 last year, and I believe it was a hectic triathlon star who time trialed from G or something.

In my first year of cycling (2008), I did a 3:10 from group M, but the weather was absolutely perfect and not a breath of wind. Without being in a decent bunch, not sure how strong you have to be to shave off those 10 mins.

If you are in a decent enough bunch, just make sure you're one of the first riders to the top of Smitswinkels if the wind is blowing South East.
