The news24 comments are quite scary, yes. But I can understand some of the frustration. I passed 4 cycling groups yesterday on a 5 km stretch where a cyclist would ride on the yellow lane, or just to the right of it (in 3/4 cases 'cause he was riding next to a buddy)

And then theres that Jozi hustle video(s)...

All good reasons why I keep to MTB'ing

how do understand the frustration when its vented in a threatening way? That's the problem with our society.

No patience,

No tolerance

No respect

and we justify it through using the most insane reasoning why those people are entitled to their violent opinions.

Nothing rong with riding next to a buddy if the shoulder is wide enough and the yellow line allows sufficient space.

Your justification for the SAFFA frustration is exactly the reason why the cyclist protection legislation needs to be amended to making the motorist immediately culpable when hitting a cyclists or pedestrian.

True. true.

I guess its about what you do with the frustration that counts.

Words stem from thoughts. Actions come from the same place. Poor behaviour has become pervasive because no one intervenes when bad thoughts become action

As cyclists we want respect for our right to cycle on the roads . We wont get that respect via legislation . We must earn the respect .

Cyclists should be protected by law, we do not have a cage to protect us. The laws are OLD and outdated http://www.acts.co.za/national-road-traffic-act-1996/ it's purely in favor of a driver, nothing in there to protect a cyclist. Vehicles are weapons of mass distraction, especially on our lawless roads which is under policed. People are getting away with murder. Bicycles are not the cause of the carnage on our roads!!!!

Put 35000 (recreational) cyclists on the road, in a competitive environment, and no one is likely to die. Do the same to (seasoned) motorists, and the result will be utter carnage. In a civilized society, the motorist will give a pedestrian, cyclist, motorcyclist space, or right of way. We are a dysfunctional lot, so not likely anytime soon. Sad. RIP to the gents on their way to pursue their passion.

This had nothing to do with cyclists behaviour I am willing to bet. They would have had to be suicidal to be riding uphill into oncoming traffic. More than likely the bus was driven too fast and didnt make the corner. I would love to know where the cyclist bashing version came from.  Lets hope they make it and can tell their side. Condolences to the families of the deceased, what a horrible accident. :(

1. Someone should take the journalist to task for spreading that without evidence.

2. Someone should take the emergency service worker that said that to task for making a false statement

I see too many rubbish and poorly written and researched reports by the media. They should be hammered when they get it wrong. The same way they hammer others!

Provincial EMS spokesman Darren Francis said, “It appears the cyclist cut corners and the bus had to swerve to miss him but it was obviously too late, the bus rolled, the bus came to land on its roof.”

This appears to be the idiot who started the story...It doesn't even make sense.

Like you Hammered me for saying the bus driver was going waay too fast? I stay in Paarl, I drive that road twice a month at least. If you adhere to the speed limit on that road, 60km per hour. You will make that turn quite easily. Even in a truck.

I got upset because everyone was on the bandwagon blaming the cyclist. Especially sites like news 24 etc, threatening to drive over us etc.

Thoughts are with everyone affected here.

Truly, this time I plead 'not guilty'! Unless you are the Mr Dick that made the stupid comment about cyclists quoted on page 1, and I'm pretty sure you are not. I'm with you on this one.
