And why would Italian Triathletes be CSA MEMBERS with a R145 membership fee which give them road insurance etc?

i don't see why foreigners won't be allowed to have the "membership" note not the "full racing license" which is required when participating in events for national representation/selection but I was being a bit sarcastic. I once held a British Licence/membership as a Saffa.

OK, but if they only wanted road insurance they could have gotten it without joining CSA. Lets be honest, in this case their medical bills will probably run into the millions, that R30K(?) little cover would probably not even cover the helicopter trip to the hospital, if they wanted to be insured they would have had to take out additional cover anyway.

Fear not, you and I will pay.

They will be entitled to claim from the Road Accident Fund and the quantum will be determined in Euro.

In about 2008, a Swiss guy bankrupted the fund after he lost a leg in a motorcycle crash in Cape Town - he had rented a Harley - and was awarded the Euro equivalent at the time of R500m. Of course a similar claim today would be clause to R1b.

Ironically, before the Swiss will give you a visa you have to show them proof that you have bought travel insurance so you make no claim on their system....

my last Europe trip for a sporting event I had to take a separate sport medical insurance out, I'm sure these ladies would've done the same. As I understand it they do have insurance, just having a bit of an admin/technical issue at the moment?
