Have they ever had issues with safety there?  Sad if true

Unfortunately yes they have.  There have been a few incidents of people getting mugged / bike jacked :-(

Where is the MTO forests in Grabouw? I take it this has nothing to do with Oak Valley and Paul Cluver. I am very keen to go and try all 3. Any tips or directions or advise please?

Also took out my year pass for jonkers a month ago. R315 for a family for the year

Jonkers permit gets you in to Grabouw MTO.

Those trails were VERY close to burning down in Feb.

When we rode Exterra there, we were riding right next to where the fire was still smouldering..

Very nice place to ride, just try go in groups due to the safety aspect.

There was muggers at work in the area close to Sir Louwrys/Gamtou pass, also stay clear of the "informal settlement" on the left side when heading out in Sir Lourys direction.

This area again very nearly burnt down with a fire that started just about a day or 2 after the Cape fires broke out, but they somehow contained it quickly.

Enjoy, this is a great area to ride with all the new W2W st.

Nice,

I was watching a documentary on the Bahamas. They have similar vegetation to ours. The narrator mentioned that natural fires occurred every 3 to 4 yeas with devastating effects. They now do control burns every 2 years to allow the seed a better chance of survival.

Made me think as to why we dont have more regular controlled burns

Good question to ask SANPARKS.

How is the logging on the Firehut side going?  Are they making progress on that?

Haha. That's the answer everyone wants. Including me. I don't see much progress but perhaps a picture will show it better.

First, the scene about 4 weeks ago..

And then the scene on Saddy..

At least there is a small pile of logs lying there on the left.  Looks like they are making some progress, much more open now than the first photo.  Are they logging every second row or are they going up and working to the sides.  Looks like quarry section still untouched.  They must get a hurry up to finish before it starts to rain so Bennet can start repairing!

What are the devastating effects, to man or nature? Not sure how the effects of a fire every 4 years can be improved by having one every 2 years?

It's got more to do with the fact that they are CONTROLLED burns
