Slightly off topic but also on topic.

I can not see any improvement from last year regarding traffic(Roads). Did the MTB yesterday and my route of choice is N14 and getting off at Diepsloot. The road to the venue is the same as last year and congestion will again be in the order of the day for the people who will make use of this route. No way that both lanes can be used inbound.

Expect another traffic nightmare.

I think any event with 33,000 people is going to be difficult but I know a lot of work has gone into improving the traffic to the venue (both North and South access). I think its going to be slow but wont be as bad a last year from the N14.

Get there early !!

Get there earlier than early, because everyone else is going to be getting there early...

Would it be advisable to park at Monte and then just cycle the odd 10km to the start?

Yes. This works very well. Monte or Forways mall.

Only issue is riding back to you car after the race is a long up hill. But just take is slow, and you will be fine. (Or get a lift from a friend.)

You won't get into Steyn City on Friday or any other day, apart from race day, unless you have a bank balance like an international telephone number.........

The rest of the last 24km will be open, but it's quite busy with traffic with some dodgy right turns at busy inter-sections........

That's my plan. Hear on radio that apparently there will be cycle lane for people riding from monte to the start...just not sure how long before the batch start time to leave.

we start at 7:35 , hoping to push a sub 3 and do a second lap...but the final 24km will be the judge of that.

Thanks man..will park at fourways mall

Note the section through Steyn City is not open to the public.

Safety wise, there are a few sections with out verges. e.g https://www.google.co.za/maps/@-25.9864749,27.9378406,3a,75y,67.4h,78.04t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s-QzWdMR8lhwszHbIH93wqQ!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo3.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3D-QzWdMR8lhwszHbIH93wqQ%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D0%26pitch%3D0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

If you are confidant riding on roads without verges, you should be find, but if this makes you nervous, rather go ride in the cradle. (So may answer is it depends on how confidant you are as a roadie.)

so what route will be good recon for this race ?

So not good for recon purpose, but if you go to the cradle, you will have a good ride.

I'm staying at a guest house just off Cedar road. The wife starts an hour after me, so not keen for her to sit in the car or on a pavement till her start. I plan to ride to the start and have her drive through later. My main concern is having to ride across a thorny dusty car park.

Is there a completely tarred section to ride from William Nicol to the start pens...?

Or do i have to wear old socks over my carbon shoes to walk across a veld with my bike above my head...?

Does the Steyn City on/offramp take you all the way to the start on tar...?

Yes. You ride up the road where we finished the MTB race yesterday. All tar from the Erling off ramp from William NIcol
