Rockshox Recon not compressing

My Recon has suddenly gone stiff. It won't compress or if I really lean on it it will only compress about 10mm. It all seemed to be working fine a month ago which was the last time I was out on my bike.

At first I thought it may be the lockout (the fork feels as though it's been locked out) but the lock/unlock cam on the top of the stanchion seems to move freely, i.e. it doesn't feel like it's stuck in the locked position.

Any ideas what the problem may be?

Is this an air fork? Have you tried letting out all the air and seeing if the fork will compress then?

Either the lockout's jammed or the damper oil's leaked into the lowers causing hydraulic lock. A service will sort it out.

Tried to let out some of the air, no difference.

I will take it for a service

 

I have read on internet that "damper oil leaked into the lowers" could be the problem.

Why would that happen?

Lack of maintenance or a faulty seal. How old is the fork and when was it last serviced?

Fork couple of years old, but serviced regularly. had it serviced last year. Could be faulty seal
