It's funny, but he really struggles to keep it together.

The pair he has their is the old KSO, you will feel a tjerries nipples with those on.

They will make you use muscles you have never used before, I use them for the Warrior Black-Ops with Injinji socks, comfort from heaven .

Im a heavy operpronator so Im not sure how I would cope with those shoes.

Might give them a go sometime though, Im pretty injury prone in running but its mostly because my brain switches off and I run further than I should without building up.

You could also be getting injured from using built-up shoes and not a less-supporting shoe.  Just throwing that out there

Before I went over to a more supportive shoe I was running in Newtons which are quite minimal but was getting injured more often.

Ended up having my stride checked out and was recommended new shoes based on that.

If you run correctly with Fivefingers as one should, you are not affected by the fact that you might supinate or pronate .

Going to look into a pair of them.

Worst that can happen is they become my new fishing shoes if they dont work for me!

Otjer options available as well, also with Vibram soles, but not the 5-fingers. I have e.g. a pair of Merrell which I am currently wearing. Worth a try...

I can't imagine running with them, though!   Padding between my feet and gravel/rocks are always welcome! I do run in neutral shoes, but not these zero-padding "barefoot" stuff.

The thing is, every company think by using Vibram rubber they can sell their shoes as a "barefoot" shoe.

Vibram is the rubber company.

Fivefingers offer barefoot running as it was intended for .

Ive been running for a long time....

Go and check your feet out and see if you Pronate or suprinate or if you are neutral.

Some proper advice is that Vibram 5 toe/finger shoes are NOT suitable for all people's feet, though alot of people swear by them.

Depending on your feet you may need a big heeled shoe or not.

If you are running fit and your Shoes hurt you after wearing them in... Give them away.

Running 3 x per week for only 20 - 40 mins will help your breathing when tackling uphills on your bike.

They are compatible for every single person who wants to run, that is why we were gifted with a malleolus cushion on the forefoot .

Definatley not for trail running unless your trail running is like your mountain biking where all you do is ride flat roads!

Ya ya thats what they all say cause you wasted money on buying vibrams 5's:

Its not the soft tissue like your Achilles tendon, plantar fascia that is an issue its the bones ect:

Running in barely there shoes can strengthen lower leg and feet muscles, the lack of cushioning can increase risk of bone injury.

http://www.runnersworld.com/barefoot-running-minimalism/study-vibram-fivefingers-lead-to-greater-risk-of-foot-bone-injury and this report is only after a 10 week period, buddy its not the soft tissue ie.

Vibrams never worked for me, but running shoes with cushioning but minimal heel to toe drop are the bomb. New balance 1010v2 as an example.

Talking of the forefoot.....What about people who have a "dropped metatarsal"?

I've often wondered about the 5 fingers type option believing in the basic idea of them. But I suffer from forefoot pain (pressure pain) and toe pain (nerve damage pain) due to dropped metatarsals in both feet...so much so that with my cycling shoes I have had to move the cleats all the way back plus an extra 12 mm rearwards to take the pressure of my forefoot area and for running I wear orthotics with a metatarsal bar and find that well cushioned fore foot neutral shoe (Asics Cumulus) works best. And even then I have to restrict my running distances otherwise certain toes start to feel numb permanently and the metatarsals get so sensitive that walking barefoot on hard ground is uncomfortable.

I just don't see running in a minimalistic shoe or five fingers type shoe as an option....?

Oh I see, we have a hard man here ,a tough mountain biker who assumes I have never ridden anything hard off road and a hard trail runner .

Yes after 7 pairs down the road I am still being vehement about the fact that they are good, that's why I bought other stuff in between .

Yes, Runners World the Bicycling of running mags, I also have no clue what you are n about with the soft tissue, I mentioned the malleolus .
