Running...it sucks!! but......

Running is rubbish. Who has time for running? You should be either riding or recovering. If you go for a run you aren't recovering and you delay your return to quality time on the bike.

Also it hurts and it's dead boring. The kit is uninspiring. The chance for an adrenaline rush is about zero. The scenery doesn't change, if you start in Benoni you pretty much spend the entire run in Benoni, boring. Unless you are a 48kg Ethiopian you look ridiculous. You can't jog three hours with mates then stop at a coffee shop 10km from home and have a slow jog home afterwards unless you are Chuck Norris. The pavements in S.A are in even worse condition that the roads. You will never out sprint a German Shephard that got out onto the street. Eventually your toe nails go black and fall off. If you trip and fall and injure yourself it's just plain embarrassing, not at all like an epic off in a bunch sprint which gives street cred for months. I mean you can't compare Zolas Budds mishap at the Olympics to Cavs wheel failure in a print now can you.

Nah, running sucks.

I'd love to become a trail jogger but I don't know where to buy a bandana.

First get the beard, then the bandana.

Have you tried Parkrun? Its my new addiction: 5 km timed race, errr, funrun. Registration and participation is totally free. Well organised (we have about 700 participants here every Saturday). Happens every weekend in numerous places around SA. Oh and you get 500 points if you are with Vitality.

Its a fun way to pace yourself and improve your 5km time. And its offroad

Clearly a roady bitching about road running. You can run on trails as well, scenery is great and you can go places yiu cant on a bike.

Clearly you don't know me.

I have been hiking since I was a teenager and trekked in Tibet, hiked in Namibia, solo hiked the summit of the Berg when I was a teenager. and mountain biked in Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Eritrea, USA. Malawi and a bunch of others.

Still think running is rubbish.

Who would choose to run on flats alone...

I think it goes beyond cardiovascular fitness. I am by no means an expert on any of this, but why would it not improve the way your body handles lactic acid? Why would it not push your pain threshold limits?

Not only that but some impact is good for strengthening bones - something which cyclists tend to ignore.

I thought about running, after I read up on cyclists weak bone density etc, but read enough to justify not to take up running (possibly only reading what I wanted to hear ;)

The only reason hate something is because they're not good at it

I can sympathise with people running on flat roads. I like running in the trails cause I can go places where the bike can't take me.

I love running. It's the ultimate leveller. There's no hiding in the bunch, there's no recuperating on the downhills. Its just you, your mind and the road/dirt/trail. The fact that it strengthens your legs, gives a good cardiovascular workout and generally improves your cycling performance is also a plus.

This is why I run too. [emoji2]

I hate running, but that is why I do it.  I believe you should do something you dislike every day, and avoiding work is easier than avoiding running........

The upside of running, is when you travel abroad a pair of running shoes are easier to pack than a bike.  Also you get to see more of a city on foot, especially parts that your host may not want you to see.  It is difficult for them to get someone to run with you after conferences ext.

You can fake cycling but you can't fake running.

I'm adding it to my cross training routine.

Which now consists of cycling, running and watching tv.

Just started MTB and have been running now for 3 years. It definitely made the cycling a whole lot easier . Needed to add something to my comrades training. Doing 90km a week of running gets a bit much. MTB has added the spice
