That was hard!

I knew C batch was way too high for me, but seeing a third of the group still end behind me shows how crappy 'seeding' actually is.

I ended up alone way in the start, I just don't have it to stick with damn groups. I figured it out why I think.... Ill share that tomorrow in another thread.

Warren and Alan came around with about 25km to go, and they came to Ave my life. Don't know them but they my new best friends.

Did a 3:24. I NEED TO RIDE HILLS AND DISTANCE MORE!

Well done Hayley! If I remember right, you've only really done about 2 months training on your road bike for this so like Vivek you're still far away from reaching your potential. You're a strong rider (seen it for myself :)) so a sub-3hr 100km race is not too far away for you, I'm sure. Have a safe trip back to GP and see you at 94.7 ????.

Hi guys,

Disappointed with Amashova

Did 106k race today. Most disappointed that the tables were inadequate.

- no water

- no ice

- no manpower

- the table that had water , had a long queue ,

Come guys water stations can make or break a race

Make matters worse ... It was hot

Catch a wake up organizers

I started in the buddy batch group, and had a fun day out. As mentioned the heat, by the time I got to Valley of 1000 hills, was oppressive. I ran outta water, and made a stop at he bar one water point, where I hooked up with one of my mates, and we rode together till the end. All of my other so-called friends dropped me, save for one who got a DNF.

I suffered in the wind in the last 5km, as I was really kaput by then. I did a 4.10, 8 mins slower than my last attempt in 2013, but i don't think the conditions were as tough. (Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

I will definitely be back next year to try break that elusive 4 hour barrier.

On the negative side, the fake coke was super yechy.

Now for 947 !

Ive now done my first road race. Happy with 3.25 considering I did the last 30km alone.  The officials were strict about not drafting other batches.  I had a great time.

Did you ride under the licensed ladies group?

Lekker ride this morning, thanks guys. Good luck for the race tomorrow :)

I see now our 'warm up ride' had 1334m of accent over that 48km...eish, your device wasn't lying!

I was really feeling good there and yes I know we went super slow (although I got 4th ladies overall I see on that Galloway Rd to Inchanga TJunction and back section). Makes me wonder if the distance isn't a bigger problem than hills actually at this moment. Wish I could have a section like that here close to home, I'll be up and down it in the mornings before work..haha

Tough ride, made enjoyable by the guys from Esmero, Charldin, Robert, Julian thanks! And Gerald I needed the granny up Drummond ????, you and Tyy were still faster than some of us even when you were riding in BB. I managed a 03h47

the seeding is a joke. I had a D seeding based on a seeding index of 39 which came from a 2:49 amashova (2013). Ended up with a 2:54 but made a huge error and forgot the timing chip at home.

well done to all...it was a great day to be out on the bike and have the freedom of the roads.

Hot and windy for sure. Much like last year. Managed a substitution and started from LL. Saw the remnants of 2 high speed wipe-outs down the M13. "Harvey Wallbanger" There was a bloke on a MTB who landed front wheel in a 600x600 manhole cover. Thugs must have swiped the steel lid. The bloke did look to be in serious trouble. Right knee took the brunt of the fall and the prognosis could be bad news. I hope it is not and he will soon be up and riding. It was a lot of fun with the slower groups and the true spirit of "Cycling 'cause I love it" was the order of the day. NO BIKE NO LIFE. KNOW BIKE KNOW LIFE.

3.30 in the saddle. Met some genuine people from Middelburg and Tzaneen.

Another Amashova under the belt.

Managed to get a substitution after last minute trip for a break in SA (work out of the country). Done a total of 7 "training" rides, including two this past week, this whole year with not one being longer than 45km.

Surprisingly felt okay the whole ride and managed a 2h44.

Back for number 10 next year.

Had a great race. The route was fantastic, inchanga both up and down the other side was some of the best riding I have experienced. Hang on to Gerald for a while and that helped a lot through those hills and then joined up with another group at about 70ks and we worked to the end. Last 10 ks into that wind was painful but I got a 3:43 from HL , so I'm happy with that. Great race and well organized. Fox hill was really no where near as tough as it was made out to be .

Well done Javas X.

We pushed our fellow "buddies" up Fox hill before we split into our two tour groups. The one you saw was the faster of the two (as two had dropped off earlier due to punctures).

The hardest part of the day was pacing back to the group after stopping to collect water and bananas (7 of each) at the Cato Ridge and Drummond water points, as well as pushing the guys up Fox hill - super domestique duties for me.

After getting the slow group up to the 20Km mark in 23.4km/h, we were able to "enjoy" the remaining 85Km at a quicker pace (33.1km/h). That gave us a total of 679Km at an averge of 29.6km/h for the 4 days from Germiston to Durban. Endurance, but no intensity.

Enjoyed it quite a bit will hopefully be back next year

AL started guns blazing and we were split going up the first climb, pace was hectic, we formed a group and worked well together up to the end where we caught about 2/3 of the guys that got away.

Ended up with a 2h44 and 30 odd secs almost came down in the last km wheels touching but managed to stay upright!

Winner of the AL bunch did a 2h34 and had a gap to the chasers which is very impressive as VA's did a 2h34
