Howzit (saying it with a stuffed nose...)

I did a quick search regarding VITAMIN B SHOTS. No new posts. What is the latest about vitamin b shots? Easily available otc from the pharmacy/lbs (????)? Need prescription? How much does it cost? Will it help if you are already sick?

I am g@tvol - everytime I attempt increasing training intensity, I get sick.

New legislation requires that you have a prescription from a Dr.

If you know your pharmacist well, they could maybe do it quietly without a script

Don't know what they cost

Some people swear by them, others say its a waste of money. Some people say that its the placebo effect...

Ive had the flu injection the last 2 years just before going into winter and have made it through with out getting sick. Previously would spend a good week or two completely man down.

Its available over the counter and my local chemist charges R100.

When it was still freely available, a shot cost me R30.00 at my local Pharmacy.

Now you need a Dr prescription, so I don't go for my regular B12 Complex jabs.

You need a script. This is good for 3 shots. After the cost of the script the shots cost about ZAR 50.00.

It may be placebo effect, but it works for me.

I recently went to the doctor because I was constantly tired, couldn't keep my eyes open by 8pm. Found out I had glandular fever, got perscribed Vitamin B complex and Vitamin B12 course 2 injections a week for 5 weeks. Cost was about R120. For me from the first shot I felt like a new person, fatigue was much better, was very carefull of the placebo effect but I can honestly say I have more energy. Sleep patterns are better. So while you're mileage may vary, it's worth a try IMHO.

I get a B12 complex shot from my doctor every second week. I used to end up with a bad dose of bronchitis every winter. Since taking the shots I have not had anything more than a light cold.

Ja, I am recently buggered by mid afternoon - can't keep awake. And then passed out before 8pm. Tired. But definitely not from over-training. I barely train three times a week. Exactly why I need to increase intensity. Did a longish ride the past weekend (close to 4hours, ok, long ride for me...), now sick again. I need to do something urgent to improve my immunity and energy.

Easy to get from a pharmacy with a nurse.

You do need a prescription - but a registered nurse can do it for this one

Costs about R30 plus disposables - around 100 - 120 in total

Will it help - maybe - if you are vitamin defficient (unlikely) - will it make you feel better - probably - it does have some effects on brain chemistry....

And while you are there - get a flu shot - that will help for the year ahead - repeat every 2 years - do the whole family.

Thanks. Currently treating the sinuses with spray and anthistamine. Need to address the reason why this happens when I am increasing intensity. Will speak to the doc.
